Second Infantry Division was created in France in 1917 from an Infantry Brigade, a Marine brigade and an artillery battalion. It was commanded by Marine generals twice during World War I, the only time a Marine has commanded an Army Division. At the start of World War II, the Division moved to Wisconsin to train for winter warfare. Current home base is Korea.
