Jewett family ties

This family is not directly related to us.  I include this partial descent list due to the frequent intermarriage with our family.  I have left out most of the children, including only those who married into our lines.

Edward Jewett was born 15 May 1579 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died 2 Feb 1614 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England.  He married
Mary Taylor.  Mary was born about 1583 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died 23 May 1626 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England.

Their children: William, Maximilian, Joseph, Sarah, Grace, Josias
Three of their lines merge into ours:

a.  William Jewett was born in 1605 in England, and died in 1641 in Massachusetts.  William married Ann Field.  Ann was born in 1609 in England, and died in 1667 in Massachusetts.
William and Ann had several children (Joseph, Joseph, Nathan, Abraham, John), of whom we list two:

a3. Abraham Jewett was born about 1634 (baptized 14 Sep 1634) in Yorkshire, England, and died about Apr 1694 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married 2 Apr 1661, Ann Allen, daughter of Bozoan Allan and Ann ___. Ann was born 8 Oct 1643 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 9 Feb 1720/21 in Rowley.

Abraham and Ann had seven children (Deborah, Ann, Mary, Bosoume, Abraham, Priscilla, Elizabeth), of whom we list one:

a32. Ann Jewett was born 20 Jun 1667 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Feb 1714/15 in Rowley. She married 10 Jun 1690, Francis Palmer, son of John Palmer and Margaret Northend. Francis was born 4 Oct 1657 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 19 Apr 1733 in Rowley. He had previously married Elizabeth Hunt [11390.2.3] and had four children (of which two were living).

Ann and Francis had three children (Sarah, Francis, Ann), of whom we list one:

a322. Francis Palmer was born 22 May 1694 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 29 May 1778. He is a half-brother to the children of 11390.2.3 Elizabeth Hunt. He married first, 30 Oct 1716 in Rowley, Sarah Stickney [2840.4.5], daughter of John Stickney and Hannah Brocklebank. Francis married second, 25 May 1725, Elizabeth Brocklebank [2840.9.1], daughter of Joseph Brocklebank and Elizabeth Barker. Elizabeth and Sarah are first cousins.

a5.  John Jewett was born 24 Nov 1637 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died Nov 1708 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married twice, and children from both marriages merge into our family.

John married first, 2 Apr 1661, Elizabeth Cummings, daughter of Isaac Cummings and Joanna ___.  Elizabeth was born about 1635 in Topsfield, Massachusetts, and died 9 Jul 1679 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts.

John and Elizabeth probably had several children, but we know only of one:

a11.  Hannah Jewett was born 7 Oct 1661.  Some have her name as Hannah Swett.  She married 20 Jan 1684/85 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, Joseph Plummer [5688.5.1], son of Joseph Plummer and Sarah Cheney.

John married second, in 1680, Elizabeth Howe, also seen as Elizabeth How or (from a previous marriage), Elizabeth Chadwell.  John and Elizabeth had several children, of whom we list two:

a12.  Daniel Jewett was born 12 Nov 1681 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Jun 1727 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married on 25 Feb 1699/00 Elizabeth Hopkinson [2838.3.4], daughter of John Hopkinson and Elizabeth Pearson.

a13.  Jonathan Jewett was born 2 Dec 1685 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 11 Dec 1773 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married on 28 Apr 1707 Anne Hopkinson [2838.3.5], daughter of John Hopkinson and Elizabeth Pearson. Anne was born  Mar 1688/87 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 31 May 1737 in Rowley. Jonathan then married second, 17 Dec 1741, Mehitabel Kilbourne [2816.2.4.1], daughter of George Kilbourne and Phebe Palmer (Phebe is 2838.6.5, Anne's first cousin).

b.  Maximilian Jewett was born 4 Oct 1607 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died Oct 1684 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married Ann Cole.  Ann was born about 1620 in England, and died Nov 1667 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

Maximilian and Ann had several children (Ezekiel, Anna, Mary, Elizabeth, Faith, Joseph, Sarah, Priscilla), of whom we list three:

b1.  Ezekiel Jewett was born 5 Mar 1642/43 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 2 Sep 1723 in Rowley.  He married 26 Feb 1663/64 in Rowley, Faith Parratt, daughter of Francis Parratt and Elizabeth Northend.  Faith was born 20 Mar 1642/43 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died on 15 Oct 1715 in Rowley.  This was Faith's second marriage.  {She had previously married John Smith (~1640-1661), and they had a child who also married into our family: Sarah Smith was born 14 Apr 1660 in Rowley, and died there 28 Sep 1689; she married John Pickard [5678.2.3], son of John Pickard and Jane Crosby.}

Ezekiel and Faith had nine children (Francis, Thomas, Ezekiel, Maximilian, Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Stephen), six of whom we list:

b12.  Thomas Jewett was born 20 Sep 1666 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 6 May 1731 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married on 18 May 1692 Hannah Story, daughter of William Story.  She is also seen (from a previous marriage) as Hannah Swan.

Thomas and Hannah had several children, of whom we list two:

b121.  Mehitabel Jewett was born 30 May 1698 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Jul 1777 in Maugerville (Sunbury, New Brunswick) Canada.  She married 4 Feb 1730 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, Jonathan Burpee [1416.6], son of Thomas Burpee and Hester Hopkinson.  Jonathan had first married Mehitabel's first cousin Hannah Platts (b171 below).

b122.  Ezekiel Jewett was born 12 Jan 1692/93 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1775.  He married Martha Thurston.  Martha was born on 9 Jan 1717/18 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.

Ezekiel and Martha had several children, of whom we list one:

b1121.  Thomas Jewett was born 29 Mar 1720 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married 2 Apr 1744, Martha Hale, daughter of Ambrose Hale and Joanna Dodge.  Martha was born 6 Dec 1723 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.

Thomas and Martha had five children (Daniel, Joanna, Sarah, Enoch, Ezekiel), of whom we list one:

    b11211.  Daniel Jewett was born 12 Aug 1744 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died about 1801 in Sheffield (Sunbury, New Brunswick) Canada.

    He married 18 Aug 1767 in Maugerville (Sunbury, New Brunswick) Canada, Abigail Thurston [1416.10.1], daughter of Benjamin Thurston and

    Sarah Burpee.

b14.  Maximilian Jewett was born 5 Feb 1671/72.  He married Sarah ___.

Maximilian and Sarah had several children, of whom we list two:

b141.  Hannah Jewett was born 6 Apr 1699 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 17 Mar 1802.  She married in 1718, John Tenney, son of Samuel Tenney and Sarah Boynton.  John was born 8 Dec 1692 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 23 Aug 1732 in Bradford.

Hannah and John had several children, of whom we list one:

b1411.  Ebenezer Tenney was born 1 Mar 1729/30 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married 14 Apr 1757 in Bradford, Mary Cheney [2844.10.3], daughter of Eldad Cheney and Joanna Woodbury.

b142.  Sarah Jewett was born 3 Jun 1707 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 22 Nov 1802.  She married Joseph Pickard [5678.2.6.7], son of Samuel Pickard and Elizabeth Hale.

b16. Sarah Jewett was born 24 Nov 1765 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 28 Sep 1730 in Rowley. She married Jonathan Bailey. Jonathan was born in 1670 in Massachusetts, and died in 1733 in Massachusetts.

Sarah and Jonathan had several children, of whom we list one:

b161. Mary Bailey was born 31 Jul 1715 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 18 Feb 1734/35, Amos Jewett [2838.3.4.4], son of Daniel Jewett and Elizabeth Hopkinson. Mary and Amos are third cousins through Edward Jewett and Mary Taylor.

b17.  Elizabeth Jewett was born 29 Mar 1678 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 8 Apr 1762 in Rowley.  She married 30 Nov 1704, Isaac Platts.  Isaac was born 6 Jan 1672/73, and died 27 Mar 1711.

Elizabeth and Isaac had several children, of whom we list two:

b171.  Hannah Platts was born 19 Sep 1705 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 24 Jan 1728 in Rowley.  She married 26 Dec 1722 in Rowley, Jonathan Burpee [1416.6], son of Thomas Burpee and Hester Hopkinson.  After Hannah died, Jonathan married her first cousin Mehitabel Jewett (b121 above).

b172.  Faith Platts was born 8 Jun 1710 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 31 Mar 1801 in Rowley.  She married 6 Jun 1733, Samuel Stickney [2838.6.2.5], son of Benjamin Stickney and Mary Palmer.

b18.  Nathaniel Jewett was born 12 Feb 1681 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1751 in Rowley.  He married Mary Gage.  Mary was born in 1685 in Massachusetts, and died in 1764.

Nathaniel and Mary had several children, of whom we list one:

b181.  Jane Jewett was born 3 Apr 1713 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1755.  She married about 1737, Stephen Pingry [2838.12.1.2], son of Aaron Pingry and Elizabeth Pearson.

b19.  Stephen Jewett was born 23 Feb 1682/83 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 14 Jan 1771 in Rowley.  He married his cousin Priscilla Jewett (b66, below), daughter of Joseph Jewett and Rebecca Law.

Stephen and Priscilla had six children (Phebe, Eliphalet, David, Solomon, Rebecca, Elizabeth), one of whom is of interest to us:

b192.  Eliphalet Jewett was born 22 Jan 1711/12 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 30 Oct 1789 in Rowley.  He married his cousin Ruth Pickard [5694.5.8.3], daughter of Jonathan Pickard and Johanna Jewett

b6.  Joseph Jewett was born 1 Feb 1653/54 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 29 Oct 1735 in Rowley.  He married 2 Mar 1676 in Rowley, Rebecca Law, daughter of William Law and Mary ___.  Rebecca was born 1 Apr 1655 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Dec 1729.

Joseph and Rebecca had seven children (Jonathan, Ruth, Aquila, Elizabeth, Hannah, Priscilla, Rebecca), four of whom merge into our family:

b61.  Jonathan Jewett was born 11 Mar 1678/79 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Jul 1745.  He married in 1700 Mary Wicom.  Mary was born 18 Jan 1678/79 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 14 May 1741 in Exeter (Rockingham) New Hampshire.

Jonathan and Mary had several children, of whom we list one:

b611.  Moses Jewett was born 5 Nov 1715 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married Martha Hale [2838.6.3.4], daughter of Samuel Hale and Martha Palmer.

b63.  Aquila Jewett was born 4 Sep 1684 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Nov 1760.  He married first, Ann Tenney, daughter of Thomas Tenney and Margaret Hidden.  Ann was born 26 Aug 1683 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 6 Mar 1722/23 in Rowley.  Aquila married second, 10 Mar 1723/24, Martha Pearson [2838.12.3], daughter of Stephen Pearson and Mary French.

Aquila and first wife Ann had seven children (William, Mehitabel, Rachel, Ezra, Elizabeth, Bethia, Abel, Amos, Jeremiah), who are half-siblings to the children of Martha, and four of whom also marry into our lines:

b631.  William Jewett was born 5 Jul 1705, and died in 1786.  He married in 1727 Hannah Pickard [5678.2.6.10], daughter of Samuel Pickard and Elizabeth Hale.

b632. Mehitabel Jewett was born about Nov 1706 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 11 Nov 1774 in Rowley. She married 10 Dec 1730 in Rowley, Ezekiel Sawyer [2840.4.1.1], son of Hannah Stickney and Ezekiel Sawyer.

b637.  Abel Jewett was born 10 Apr 1715 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married 24 Jan 1739/40, Mary Pingry [2838.12.1.4], daughter of Aaron Pingry and Elizabeth Pearson.

b638.  Amos Jewett was born 22 Jul 1719.  He married 1 Nov 1744 in Essex Co, Massachusetts, his cousin Jane Tenney [2838.10.9.4], daughter of Mehitabel Pearson and William Tenney. Jane and Amos are second cousins through Thomas Tenney and Ann Mighill, outside our lines.

b66.  Priscilla Jewett was born 9 Aug 1687 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Dec 1722 in Rowley.  She married her cousin Stephen Jewett (b19 above), son of Ezekiel Jewett and Faith Parratt.

Their children, including one who marries into our family, are listed under Stephen.

b67.  Rebecca Jewett was born 24 Jul 1693 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 21 Jan 1777 in Rowley.  She married 19 May 1714 in Rowley, Jeremiah Burpee [1416.1], son of Thomas Burpee and Hester Hopkinson.  She also married John Pemberton.

b7. Sarah Jewett was born 17 Jan 1660 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 16 Aug 1746 in Rowley.  She married 13 May 1689 in Rowley, Jeremiah Ellsworth. Jeremiah was born about 1650 in England, and died 6 May 1704 in Rowley.

Sarah and Jeremiah had several children, of whom we list one:

b71. Jeremiah Ellsworth was born 5 Dec 1692 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 28 Jan 1779 in Rowley.  He married 22 Nov 1712 in Rowley, Hannah Tenney, daughter of Thomas Tenney and Margaret Hidden. Hannah was born 27 Jan 1690 in Rowley, and died Feb 1779 in Rowley.

Jeremiah and Hannah had several children, of whom we list one:

b711. Jonathan Ellsworth was born 13 Jan 1722 probably in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Feb 1769. He married 20 Feb 1753 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, Eunice Tenney [2838.10.9.6], daughter of William Tenney and Mehitabel Pearson.

c.  Joseph Jewett was born in 1609 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died in 1660 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married twice, and children from both marriages merge into our family

Joseph married first, Mary Mallinson, daughter of Richard Mallinson and Sarah Waterhouse.  Mary was born 29 May 1606 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died 12 Apr 1652 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. 
Joseph and Mary had several children (Sarah, Jeremiah, Hannah, Mary, Nehemiah, Patience, Faith), of whom we list three:

c2.  Jeremiah Jewett was born 26 Dec 1637 in Bradford (Yorkshire) England, and died 20 May 1714 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married in 1661 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, Sarah Dickinson, daughter of Thomas Dickinson (~1620-1662) and Jennet ___ (~1616-1686).  Sarah was born about 1640 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 30 Jan 1723/24 in Rowley.

Jeremiah and Sarah had nine children (Jeremiah, Joseph, Thomas, Eleazer, Sarah, Mary, Nehemiah, Ephraim, Caleb), three of whom are of interest to us:

c21.  Jeremiah Jewett was born 20 Dec 1662 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 15 Feb 1731/32 in Ipswich.  He married 4 Jan 1687/88 in Ipswich, Elizabeth Kimball, daughter of Caleb Kimball and Anne Haseltine.  Elizabeth was born 8 Sep 1666 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1729 in Ipswich.

Jeremiah and Elizabeth had six children (Elizabeth, Hannah, Aaron, Moses, Mary, Mercy), of whom we list three:

c212. Hannah Jewett was born 16 Jul 1690 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 3 Mar 1777 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. She married on 27 Feb 1710/11, Stephen Pearson [2838.12.2], son of Stephen Pearson and Mary French. Stephen was born 9 Jun 1687 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 18 Mar 1772 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts.

Their daughter Mary marries c2131 James below.

c213.  Aaron Jewett was born 13 Jun 1699 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Jun 1732 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married on 18 Nov 1719 in Ipswich, Abigail Perley, daughter of Samuel Perley and Abigail Cummings.  Abigail was born 6 Jul 1700 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 1 Sep 1768 in Rowley.

Aaron and Abigail had four children (James, Moses, Rebecca, Abigail), three of whom marry into our family:

c2131. James Jewett was born about Apr 1721 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts. He married about 1738, his first cousin Mary Pearson [2838.12.2.3] daughter of Stephen Pearson and Hannah Jewett (c212 above). James and Mary are first cousins, both descending from c21 Jeremiah Jewett and Elizabeth Kimball, above.

c2132. Moses Jewett was born in 1722 (baptized 7 Apr 1722) in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 31 Jul 1796 in Ipswich. He married on 13 May 1741, Abigail Bradstreet [5694.5.10.1], daughter of Moses Bradstreet and Abigail Lunt. Abigail was born in 1722 and died in 1794.

Moses served in the Revolutionary War.

c2134.  Abigail Jewett was born 10 May 1730 in Scarborough (Cumberland) Maine (was Massachusetts at the time), and died 6 Oct 1795 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts.  She married on 25 Dec 1751 Amos Stickney [2838.6.2.10], son of Benjamin Stickney and Mary Palmer.

c215. Mary Jewett was born 27 Jan 1674 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Nov 1695 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts from childbirth. She married on 1 Nov 1694 in Newbury, Abner Dole, son of Richard Dole and Hannah Rolfe.

Mary and Abner had one child (Henry) listed under Abner.

c25.  Sarah Jewett was born 23 Nov 1673 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 29 Mar 1733 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.  She married William Hobson.  William was born 29 May 1659 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 23 Sep 1725 in Rowley.

Sarah and William had several children, of whom we list one:

c251.  Jeremiah Hobson was born 10 Sep 1697 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1741 in Buxton (York) Maine.  He married on 1 Jan 1728/29 in Rowley, Jane Dresser [1408.1.1], daughter of Joseph Dresser and Elizabeth Kilbourn.

c27.  Nehemiah Jewett was born about 1678 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 2 Feb 1732/33.  He married 14 Jun 1707, Priscilla Bradstreet [2836.1.5.1], daughter of Nathaniel Bradstreet and Priscilla Carriel.

c5.  Nehemiah Jewett was born 6 Apr 1643 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 1 Jan 1720 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married Experience Pierce, daughter of John.

Nehemiah and Experience had ten children (Mary, Thomas, Joanna, Nathan, Mercy, Nehemiah, Joseph, Mehitabel, Benjamin, Purchase), of whom we list two:

c56.  Nehemiah Jewett was born 14 Mar 1683/84 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 24 Aug 1747. He married 8 Dec 1709 in Salem (Essex) Massachusetts, Katherine Garland. Katherine was born about 1685 in England and died 21 Nov 1747 in Massachusetts.

Nehemiah and Katherine had nine children (Purchase, Mehitabel, Katherine, John, Patience, James, Joannah, Mary, Jane), of whom we list one:

c561. Purchase Jewett was born 15 Oct 1710 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 22 Jun 1786 in Ipswich. He married on 28 Oct 1736, Ruth Todd [2840.5.2.2], daughter of John Todd and Ruth Lunt.

c57.  Joseph Jewett was born 14 Sep 1685 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1751 in Pepperell, Massachusetts.  He married 1 Jan 1707, Jane Hazen [5678.2.7.1], daughter of Edward Hazen and Jane Pickard.

c6. Patience Jewett was born 5 May 1645 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 29 May 1666 in Lynn (Essex) Massachusetts, Shubael Walker, son of Richard Walker. Shubael was born about 1639 and died 22 Jan 1688/89 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

Patience and Richard had several children, of whom we list one:

c61. Sarah Walker was born 2 Jul 1680 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 2 Sep 1721 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. She married on 3 Jun 1701, Joseph Pearson [2838.2.3], son of John Pearson and Mary Pickard.

Joseph married second, Ann ___.

Joseph and Ann probably had several children, but we only know of one:

c8.  Joseph Jewett was born 1 Apr 1656 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 30 Oct 1694 in Rowley.  He married Ruth Wood [5694.5], daughter of  Thomas Wood and Ann Hunt.
