Hazeltine/Stickney family ties

These families are not directly related to us.  I include this partial descent list due to the frequent intermarriage with our family.  I have left out most of the children, including only those who married into our lines.

Abraham Hazeltine was born 23 May 1648 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 28 Apr 1711 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.  He married
Elizabeth Longhorne.  Elizabeth was born Sep 1649 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 29 Mar 1704 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

Four of their lines merge into ours:

a. Mary Hazeltine was born 30 Apr 1672 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 4 Jan 1730/31 in Lexington (Middlesex) Massachusetts. She married in 1689 Samuel Stickney, son of Samuel Stickney and Julia Swan, below. Samuel was born 5 Feb 1662/63 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 30 Dec 1714 in Bradford.

Mary and Samuel had four children (Sarah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Samuel), of whom we list two:

a1. Sarah Stickney was born 9 Dec 1690 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Sep 1758 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married on 17 Jun 1717, Samuel Spofford [2832.4.6], son of Samuel Spofford and Sarah Burpee.

a2. Thomas Stickney was born 23 Aug 1694 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Oct 1769 in Bradford. He married in 1716, Mary Mulliken (also seen as Millikin and Mullickin), daughter of Robert Mulliken and Rebecca ___. Mary was born 26 Sep 1692 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died on 2 Mar 1736/37.

Thomas and Mary had nine children (Mehitabel, Amos, Mary, Samuel, Rebeckah, Thomas, Sarah, Dorothy, Thomas), of whom we list three:

a21. Mehitabel Stickney was born 3 Mar 1717 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 11 Mar 1781 in Bradford. She married 26 Sep 1739 in Bradford, Moses Wood [2832.4.7.1], son of Mary Spofford and Edward Wood. Moses was born 27 Sep 1716 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Mar 1799 in Bradford.

a23. Mary Stickney was born 16 Oct 1720 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 25 Mar 1743 in Bradford, Moses Worcester [2844.6.1.1], son of Moses Worcester (1691-1756) and Mercy Tenney (1691-1770). Moses was born 19 Aug 1720 in Bradford, and died in 1807.

a27. Sarah Stickney was born 27 Oct 1728. She married 24 May 1749 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, Ebenezer Wood [2832.4.7.4], son of Mary Spofford and Edward Wood. Ebenezer was born 16 Apr 1727 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

b. Robert Hazeltine (also seen as Haseltine) was born 16 May 1674 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Jun 1760 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. He married on 10 Jun 1702, Sarah Spofford [2832.4.2], daughter of Samuel Spofford and Sarah Burpee. Sarah was born 24 Sep 1680 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 22 Jan 1755 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

c. Bethiah Hazeltine was born 16 May 1682 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. The same birth date is given for Bethiah and her brother Robert, which I suspect might be a transcription error somewhere. Bethiah married 31 Dec 1701 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, Thomas Spofford [2832.4.1], son of Samuel Spofford and Sarah Burpee. Thomas was born 6 Jun 1678 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

d. Richard Hazeltine was born about 1679 and died in 1755. He married Abigail Chadwick, Abigail was born in 1683 and died in 1743.

Richard and Abigail had nine children (Ephraim, Richard, Thomas, John, Mary, Abigail, Amos, James, Willam), of whom we list one:

d3. Thomas Hazelton was born in 1707. He married Joanna Hills. Joanna was born in 1717.

Thomas and Joanna had six children (Abigail, Rebecca, Thomas, Moses, Benjamin, Joanna), of whom we list one:

d32. Rebecca Hazelton was born in 1741. She married 6 Jul 1769, Peter Coffin [2840.7.3.5], son of John Coffin and Judith Greenleaf.

William Stickney was born about 1592 in England, and died in 1665 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married

Elizabeth Dawson. Elizabeth was born about 1595 in England, and died in 1680 in Massachusetts.

William and Elizabeth had eleven children (Samuel, Daniel, Amos, Mary, John, Faith, Andrew, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mercy, Adding), of whom we list three:

A. Samuel Stickney was born 5 Feb 1630 in Yorkshire, England, and died in 1709 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 18 Apr 1653 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, Julia Swan, daughter of Richard Swan and Anna Spofford. Julia was born 15 Feb 1633 in Boston (Middlesex) Massachusetts, and died about 1673. Samuel married second in 1674 Prudence Levar, and had children William, Thomas, Jonathan.

Samuel and Julia had four children (Elizabeth, Samuel, William, Sarah), of whom we list one:

A2. Samuel Stickney was born 5 Feb 1662/63 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 30 Dec 1714 in Bradford. He married in 1689, Mary Hazeltine, daughter of Abraham Hazeltine and Elizabeth Longhorne, above.

Samuel and Mary had several children, listed under Mary.

C. Amos Stickney was born Feb 1635 in Yorkshire, England, and died 29 Aug 1678 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. He married in 1663 in Newbury, Sarah Morse. Sarah was born 1 May 1641 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 7 Dec 1711 in Newbury. Besides the children listed below, Sarah had another daughter Mary out of wedlock (1680), for which she was fined and whipped. She apparently had no idea who the father was, and accused several men at different times. The daughter is usually called Mary Stickney and is often seen as the daughter of Amos, sometimes with her birth date adjusted to fit with his death date. Incidentally, this Mary married in 1699 Daniel Pettingell, son of Samuel Pettingell and Sarah Poore -- three of Daniel's siblings marry into our family.

Amos and Sarah had four children (John, Andrew, Benjamin, Moses), of whom we list three:

C1. John Stickney was born 23 Jun 1666 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Aug 1727 in Newbury. He married Dec 1689 in Newbury, Mary Poore, daughter of Samuel Poore and Rebecca Church. Mary was born 21 Oct 1671 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 20 Aug 1737 in Newbury.

John and Mary had eight children (Mary, John, Sarah, Prudence, Joseph, Moses, Amos, Edna), of whom we list one:

C16. Moses Stickney was born 6 May 1707 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 7 Aug 1788 in Newbury. He married 6 Jun 1728, Lydia Pettingell [2844.8.1], daughter of Richard Pettingell and Jemima Cheney. She is a first cousin to Daniel Pettingell who married Mary above.

C2. Andrew Stickney was born 9 Dec 1667 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1717 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married about 1694 Elizabeth Chute [2846.2], daughter of James Chute and Mary Wood.

C3. Benjamin Stickney was born 4 Apr 1673 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Mar 1756 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married on 16 Jan 1700/01 in Rowley, Mary Palmer [2838.6.2], daughter of Samuel Palmer and Mary Pearson.

E. John Stickney was born 14 Jan 1640 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1709 in Rowley. He married 9 Jun 1680 in Rowley, Hannah Brocklebank [2840.4], daughter of Samuel Brocklebank and Hannah ___.
