Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. This family is not directly related to us. I include this partial descent list due to the frequent intermarriage with our family. I have left out most of the children, including only those who married into our lines.
Richard Dole, son of William Dole and Joan Hale, was born about Dec 1622 in Gloucestershire, England, and died in 1705 in Massachusetts. He married on 3 May 1647 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts,
Hannah Rolfe. Hannah was born about 1629 and died 16 Nov 1678 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts.
Richard married second, 4 Mar 1678/79, our direct ancestor Hannah ___ [2841], widow of Samuel Brocklebank. There were no children from this second marriage.
Richard and Hannah had ten children (John, Richard, Anna, Benjamin, Joseph, William, Henry, Hannah, Apphia, Abner), of whom we list five:
a. John Dole was born 10 Aug 1648 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died
10 Jan 1694 in Newbury. He married 23 Oct 1676 in Newbury, Mary Gerrish, daughter of William Gerrish
and Joanna Lowell. Mary was born 1 Apr 1658 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts.
John and Mary had eight children (Hannah, Benjamin, Mary, Sarah, John, Moses, Elizabeth, Judith), of whom we list one:
a5. John Dole was born 16 Feb 1686 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 18 Aug 1720 in Salisbury (Essex) Massachusetts. He married about 1709, Hannah Todd [2840.5.1], daughter of John Todd and Elizabeth Brocklebank.
b. Richard Dole was born 6 Sep 1650 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died
1 Aug 1723 in Newbury. He married 7 Jun 1677 in Newbury, Sarah Greenleaf,
daughter of Stephen Greenleaf and Elizabeth Coffin. Sarah was born 29 Oct 1655 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and
died Sep 1718 in Newbury. She has some Dole ancestry, so they might be cousins.
Richard and Sarah had ten children (Richard, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, John, Stephen, Joseph, Judith, Tabitha, Mary), of whom we list six:
b1. Richard Dole (some have Richard Dale) was born 28 Apr 1678 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. He married first in 1706, Sarah Ilsley, by which marriage he had one son (Enoch). Richard married second, 14 Aug 1709, Elizabeth Stickney [2840.4.2], daughter of John Stickney and Hannah Brocklebank. Some have Elizabeth married to Richard's father, Richard Sr.
b2. Elizabeth Dole was born 21 Dec 1680 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 6 Nov 1699 in Newbury, Joshua Plummer [5638.1.10], son of Samuel Plummer and Mary Bitfield.
b5. John Dole was born 2 Feb 1685 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 24 Jan 1717 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, Esther Burpee [1416.3], daughter of Thomas Burpee and Hester Hopkinson.
b6. Stephen Dole was born 2 Dec 1686/87 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 28 Jan 1742 in Newbury. He married 29 Nov 1716, Susanna Noyes [11380.5.8.5], daughter of William Noyes and Sarah Cogswell.
b7. Joseph Dole was born 5 Dec 1689 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died about Oct 1757. He married Lydia Noyes [5690.9.6], daughter of James Noyes and Hannah Knight.
b9. Tabitha Dole was born about 1690 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Oct 1771 in Newbury. She married 17 Nov 1715 in Newbury, John Noyes [11380.5.8.1], son of William Noyes and Sarah Cogswell.
f. William Dole was born 11 Apr 1660 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 31 Jan 1717 in Newbury. He married 13 Oct 1684 in Newbury, his stepsister Mary Brocklebank [2840.6], daughter of Samuel Brocklebank and Hannah ___.
g. Henry Dole was born 9 Mar 1662/63 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Sep 1690 in Newbury. He married 3 Nov 1686 in Newbury, his stepsister Sarah Brocklebank [2840.7], daughter of Samuel Brocklebank and Hannah ___.
j. Abner Dole was born 8 Mar 1671/72 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died
about Jan 1740. He married 1 Nov 1694 in Newbury, Mary Jewett, daughter
of Jeremiah Jewett and Sarah Dickinson. Mary died from the birth of their only child.
Abner and Mary had one child:
j1. Henry Dole was born 28 Oct 1695 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died about 1766 in Newbury.
He married first, 13 Nov 1728 probably in Newbury, Mary Hale, daughter of John Hale and
Sarah Jaques. Mary was born 28 Dec 1704 in Newbury, and died sometime before 1742.
Henry and Mary had six children (Henry, Samuel, Jeremiah, Mary, Sarah, Moses).
Henry married second, 4 Oct 1742 in Newbury, his cousin Elizabeth Dole [2840.6.8.1], daughter of Samuel Dole and Elizabeth Knight. Elizabeth was born on 31 Jul 1722 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 11 Jun 1805 in Newbury. Henry and Elizabeth are first cousins once removed, both descending from Richard Dole and Hannah Rolfe. They are also “stepcousins”, as Elizabeth is a descendant of Richard's second wife Hannah [Brocklebank].
