Thomas Burpee [Gen 12]

Sarah Kelly [daughter of 5666 John Kelly & Nancy Bishop]

Most of our information on this family is from published books and secondary website sources; I am presenting what we have found, but cannot say anything about the accuracy of  the information.  

2832.  Thomas Burpee was born about 1627 in Yorkshire, England, and died 1 Jun 1701 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married twice, and had children from both marriages. Thomas married first, about 1654, Martha Cheney [5688.2], daughter of John Cheney (1605-1666) and Martha Parrat, and widow of Anthony Sadler. Martha was born about 1629 in England, and died 24 Jun 1658 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. Martha had one child from her first marriage, (Abiel Sadler, listed under Martha). He would be 8 years old when Martha died, we don't know whether Thomas kept him, or if he went to one of the grandparents. Thomas and Martha had three children, one of whom died before Martha.

2833.  Sarah Kelly. Sarah was born 12 Feb 1640/41 in Newbury (Essex), Massachusetts, and died 25 Dec 1713 in Rowley.

The name Burpee is supposed to be from Norman French Beaupres (beautiful fields). It is also seen as Burpe, Burkbee or Burkby.

Some have Thomas born 3 Sep 1639; however, that would make him 15 at marriage and 16 at the birth of first child (the same source gives his first marriage as 1650, even worse). Thomas came to Massachusetts about 1644, and was in Rowley by 1651.

Thomas and first wife Martha Cheney had three children:

2832.1. Hannah Burpee was born 6 Mar 1654/55 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 3 May 1683. Her place of death is given as Suffield (Hartford) Connecticut, but I believe this may be in error -- she was married in Rowley, and her daughter was supposed to have been born in Massachusetts a few months before her death. Perhaps the place of death should be Suffield (Hampden) Massachusetts? -- others in the family are associated with Hampden County.  Hannah married on 10 Oct 1681 in Rowley, John Huggins, son of John Huggins (1610-1670) and Bridget Green (1611-1680). John (also seen as John Higgins), was born in 1652 in Hampton (Rockingham) New Hampshire, and died 9 Jul 1704 in Springfield (Hampden) Massachusetts. After Hannah died he married Experience Jones and had five more children. One of his daughters was kidnapped by Abenakis in May 1704 and taken to Canada along with several others; John died along with several others from wounds received in trying to rescue them. The Abenaki were allies of the French, and the girl ended up living in Montreal and being baptized Catholic, which aparently was considered to be a horrible fate.

2832.1.1. Hannah Huggins was born in 1682 in Springfield (Hampden) Massachusetts (possibly in error, her family moved to Springfield at some point, but she was more likely born in Rowley).

2832.2. John Burpee was born 16 Sep 1656 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 15 May 1657 in Rowley, age 8 months.

2832.3. Sarah Burpee was born 21 May 1658 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1660 in Rowley, age 2.

2832.4.  Sarah Burpee was born 15 Feb 1659/60 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 18 Nov 1729 in Rowley. She married 5 Dec 1676 in Rowley, Samuel Spofford, son of John Spofford and Elizabeth Scott. Samuel (also seen as Samuel Spafford) was born 31 Jan 1652 in Rowley, and died 1 Jan 1743 in Byfield (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.1. Thomas Spofford was born 6 Jun 1678 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 31 Dec 1701 in Rowley, Bethiah Hazeltine, daughter of Abraham Hazeltine (1648-1711) and Elizabeth Longhorne (1649-1704). Bethiah was born 16 May 1682 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. Her brother Robert marries Thomas' sister Sarah, and her niece Sarah marries Thomas' brother Samuel.

2832.4.1.1. Amos Spofford was born 23 May 1703 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 24 Jan 1732/33 in Boxford, Hannah Vetch. We have 23 May as the birth date for Amos and his sister Bethia, probably one of them is a transcription error.

2832.4.1.2. Bethia Spofford was born 23 May 1705 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 5 Mar 1723/24 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut, Henry Bliss, son of Nathaniel Bliss (1671 MA - 1751 MA) and Mary Wright (1675 MA - 1738 CT). Henry was born 25 Oct 1701 in Enfield (Hartford) Connecticut, and died on 28 Aug 1761 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut. His brother Nathaniel marries Bethia's sister Mehitabel. Bethia and Henry had two children.

2832.4.1.3. Mehitabel Spofford was born 31 Jan 1706/07 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1733. She married 4 Sep 1723, Nathaniel Bliss, son of Nathaniel Bliss (1671 MA - 1751 MA) and Mary Wright (1675 MA - 1738 CT). Nathaniel was born 26 Oct 1704 in Enfield (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 23 Nov 1771. His brother Henry marries Mehitabel's sister Bethia.

2832.4.1.4. Hannah Spofford was born 3 Feb 1708/09 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 23 Jun 1796 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut. She married about 1733, John Thomas, son of James Thomas (1663-1710) and Mary Tilden. John was born 4 Nov 1700 in Duxbury (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died on 8 Mar 1785. Hannah and John had eight children, born between 1734 and 1747.

2832.4.1.5. Dorothy Spofford was born 17 Mar 1710/11 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married Samuel Throop, son of Dan Throop (1667 MA - 1737 CT) and Deborah Macy (1676 MA - d. RI). Samuel was born 25 Apr 1700 in Taunton (Bristol) Massachusetts, and died about 1727 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut. Dorothy and Samuel had two children.

2832.4.1.6. Thomas Spofford was born 28 Mar 1713 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1752. He married 27 Nov 1735, Sarah West. Sarah was born 25 Jan 1712/13.

2832.4.1.7. Elizabeth Spofford was born 9 Apr 1715 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 20 Nov 1772. She married 18 Dec 1734, Bennett Field, son of John Field (1673 MA - 1718 CT) and Mary Bennett (1675 MA - ). Bennett was born 13 Dec 1709 in Deerfield (Franklin) Massachusetts, and died on 6 Apr 1770 in Mansfield City (Tolland) Connecticut. Elizabeth and Bennett had twelve children.

2832.4.1.8. Abraham Spofford was born 7 Feb 1716/17 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.1.9. Samuel Spofford was born 5 Nov 1718 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut, and died in 1762. He married Deborah Hunt. They had 2 children.

2832.4.1.10. Sarah Spofford was born 13 May 1723 in Lebanon (New London) Connecticut.

2832.4.2. Sarah Spofford was born 24 Sep 1680 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 22 Jan 1755 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married on 10 Jun 1702, Robert Hazeltine, son of Abraham Hazeltine (1648-1711) and Elizabeth Longhorne (1649-1704). Robert was born 16 May 1674 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Jun 1760 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. His sister Bethia marries Sarah's brother Thomas.

She married 13 Dec 1725 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, Samuel Hale [2838.6.3.1], son of Samuel Hale (1674 MA - 1745 CT) and Martha Palmer (1677 MA - 1743 MA). Samuel was born 23 Oct 1699 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 24 May 1770 in Bradford.

2832.4.2.2. Elizabeth Hazeltine was born 18 Mar 1705 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Mar 1758 in Bradford. She married 15 Apr 1725, Nehemiah Carlton, son of Edward Carlton and Elizabeth ___. Nehemiah was born 15 Apr 1695 in Bradford, and died 1 Jul 1767 in Bradford.

2832.4.2.3. David Hazeltine was born 9 Dec 1707 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Jun 1790. He married 3 Feb 1736 in Bradford, Rachel Frye.

2832.4.2.3.3. Mary Hazeltine was born 18 Jun 1741 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 4 Apr 1826 in Bradford. She married 30 Nov 1760 in Rowley, Elliot Payson [2834.3.1.4], son of Mary Todd and Elliot Payson. Elliot was born 16 May 1737 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Dec 1799 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.2.4. Ruth Hazeltine was born 5 Feb 1711 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 9 May 1753 in Bradford. She married 11 Apr 1731, Moses Day, son of Moses Day and Abigail Kimball. Moses was born 19 Mar 1705/06 in Bradford.

2832.4.2.5. Mehitabel Hazeltine was born 18 Jun 1714 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 6 Aug 1779. She married David Walker.

2832.4.2.6. Ebenezer Hazeltine was born 25 Jun 1719 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 2 Oct 1737.

2832.4.3. Mary Spofford was born 7 Aug 1682 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1692.

2832.4.4. Hannah Spofford was born 12 Feb 1683/84 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1775. She married Isaac Adams, son of Abraham Adams (~1639-1714) and Mary Pettingell (1652-1705). Isaac was born 26 Feb 1678/79 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. I am giving the locations of the birth of their children as I found it, but I suspect some of the apparent Boxford/Rowley/Boxford moves may be incorrect. Isaac is not related (at least as far back as 1580's) to the Adams line on Bill's side.

2832.4.4.1. Hannah Adams was born 15 Jun 1709 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 20 Aug 1744. She married 15 Jun 1730 in Boxford, Daniel Burbank, son of Eleazer Burbank (1681-1759) and Lydia Gage (1684-1771). Daniel was born 14 Oct 1707 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1774. Eleazer's sister Sarah marries Hannah's brother Samuel.

2832.4.4.2. Samuel Adams was born Feb 1709/10 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 18 Dec 1736 in Rowley. He married Sarah Burbank, daughter of Eleazer Burbank (1681-1759) and Lydia Gage (1684-1771). Sarah was born 15 Feb 1713/14 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.4.3. Isaac Adams was born 25 May 1713 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 20 Mar 1797 in Rowley. He married 1 Apr 1743 in Rowley, his first cousin Mary Wood [2832.4.7.2], daughter of Edward Wood (1689-1762) and Mary Spofford (1692-1779). Mary was born 10 Dec 1718 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1794. They had ten children. One son, Isaac Adams (1745 MA - 1775 MA) was killed at Bunker Hill on 17 Jun 1775.

2832.4.4.4. Israel Adams was born 25 Apr 1716 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 16 Oct 1740, Deborah Searle, daughter of John Searle and Elizabeth Chaplin. Deborah was born 1 Apr 1716 in Rowley, and died Oct 1789 in Rowley. They had four children.

2832.4.4.5. David Adams was born 15 Jun 1720 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 29 Sep 1742, Hannah Jackson.

2832.4.4.6. Abigail Adams was born 28 Jun 1722 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1737.

2832.4.4.7. Mary Adams was born 12 Oct 1724 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.5. Ruth Spofford was born 18 Nov 1687 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 10 Nov 1777 in Rowley. She married 22 Apr 1714, John Brocklebank [1420.3], son of Samuel Brocklebank and Elizabeth Platts. John was born 10 Aug 1686 in Rowley, and died 8 Sep 1762 in Rowley.

2832.4.6. Samuel Spofford was born 27 Apr 1690 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 17 Jun 1717, Sarah Stickney, daughter of Samuel Stickney (1663 MA - 1714 MA) and Mary Hazeltine (1672 MA - 1731 MA). Sarah was born 9 Dec 1690 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died on 26 Sep 1758 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.6.3. Samuel Spofford was born 1 Oct 1722 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 17 Apr 1806 in Boxford. He married Nov 1752, Mary Poore, daughter of Samuel Poor and Hannah Morse. Mary was born 23 Mar 1725/26 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 14 Mar 1799.

2832.4.6.4. Thomas Spofford was born 10 Jun 1726 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 5 Dec 1750 in Boxford, Roxbee Moody. Roxbee was born about 1730, and died 9 Apr 1814 in Andover (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.6.5. Amos Spofford was born 9 Aug 1729 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 1 May 1813 in Boxford. He married 7 Mar 1754, Abigail Pearl, daughter of Richard Pearl (1702 MA - 1793 MA) and Sarah Stevens (1704 MA - 1786 MA). Abigail was born Jul 1731 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 24 Sep 1816.

2832.4.6.6. Elizabeth Spofford was born 12 May 1734 in Boxford (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.7. Mary Spofford was born 5 Jun 1692 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Dec 1779 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. She married Edward Wood [5694.2.4], son of John Wood (1656-1735) and Isabel Hazen (1662- ). Edward was born 7 Sep 1689 in Bradford, and died in 1762.

He married 26 Sep 1739 in Bradford, Mehitabel Stickney, daughter of Thomas Stickney (1694 MA - 1769 MA) and Mary Mulliken (1692 MA - 1737). Mehitabel was born on 3 Mar 1717 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 11 Mar 1781 in Bradford. Her sister Sarah marries Moses' brother Ebenezer.

2832.4.7.2. Mary Wood was born 10 Dec 1718 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1794. She married 1 Apr 1743 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, her first cousin Isaac Adams [2832.4.4.3], son of Isaac Adams and Hannah Spofford.

2832.4.7.3. Samuel Wood was born 11 Jul 1721 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Oct 1792. He married 30 Jan 1749, Ruth Hardy, daughter of Zacheriah Hardy (1685 MA - 1763 MA) and Hepzibah Wallingford (1695 MA - 1749 MA). Ruth was born 14 Jun 1720 in Bradford.

2832.4.7.4. Ebenezer Wood was born 16 Apr 1727 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts. He married 24 May 1749 in Bradford, Sarah Stickney, daughter of Thomas Stickney (1694 MA - 1769 MA) and Mary Mulliken (1692 MA - 1737). Sarah was born 27 Oct 1728. Her sister Mehitabel marries Ebenezer's brother Moses.

2832.4.7.5. John Wood was born 25 Jun 1731 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 2 Oct 1738.

2832.4.7.6. Sarah Wood was born 13 Jun 1734 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 4 Jun 1823 in Bradford. She married John Savory, son of Thomas Savory (1702 MA - 1753 MA) and Mercy Adams (1703 MA - 1785 MA). John was born 21 May 1736 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Apr 1805 in Bradford.

2832.4.8. Abigail Spofford was born 9 Mar 1693/94 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Jun 1719, from childbirth. She married 17 May 1718, Samuel Ames. Samuel was born 8 Sep 1692 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

Abigail and Samuel had one child (second cousin to us):

2832.4.8.1. Samuel Ames was born 25 Jun 1719 in Georgetown (Essex) Massachusetts. Some websites have him married 11 Jul 1744 to an Elizabeth Stevens, born 1722, but most have her married to a different Samuel Ames.

2832.4.9. Mehitabel Spofford was born 10 May 1698 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. She married 25 Sep 1720, Nathaniel Harriman, son of Jonathan Harriman (1657-) and Margaret Ellithorpe. Nathaniel was born 31 Dec 1696 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

Mehitabel and Nathaniel had five children (second cousins to us):

2832.4.9.1. Abigail Harriman was born 8 Oct 1721 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 29 Apr 1809. She married 20 Apr 1742 in Rowley, Samuel Keyser, son of Timothy Keyser (1683 MA - d. NH) and Sarah Hodgkins (b. 1690 MA). Samuel was born 1 Sep 1722 in Haverhill (Essex) Massachusetts.

2832.4.9.2. Nathaniel Harriman was born 22 Mar 1721/22 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. He married about 1742, Hannah Coleman [2838.10.2.9], daughter of Thomas Coleman (1672-1759) and Phebe Pearson (1682-1754). Hannah was born 16 May 1725 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1790 in New Hampshire.

2832.4.9.3. Mehitabel Harriman was born 10 Mar 1726/27 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died about 1751. She married 6 Jun 1744 in Rowley, Jonathan Plummer [2838.2.1.1.2], son of John Plummer (1697-1772) and Rebecca Wheeler (1694-1790). Jonathan was born 13 Apr 1724 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 15 Dec 1803 in Pittsburgh (Allegheny) Pennsylvania.

2832.4.9.3.2. Paul Plummer was born 28 Dec 1746 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Jan 1831. He was a shipbuilder. Paul married on 19 Apr 1770, Hannah Woodbridge, daughter of William Woodbridge and Mary Dole. Hannah was born 1 Jun 1751.

Paul and Hannah had several children, of whom we list one (fourth cousin to us):

2832.4.9.3.2.1. Paul Plummer was born 3 Sep 1774 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 21 Nov 1817 in Newbury. He married on 29 Nov 1797, his cousin Judith Plummer [1416.8.6.2], daughter of Jeremiah Plummer (1741-1795) and Hannah Pearson (1745-1816). Judith was born 25 Jul 1773 in Newbury, and died 20 Aug 1831 in Newbury. Judith and Paul are third cousins once removed, both being descended from 2832 Thomas Burpee and Sarah Kelly.  They are also fourth cousins once removed, through 5638 Francis Plummer and Ruth.

2832.4.9.4. Samuel Harriman was born 23 May 1732 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 17 Sep 1803 in Rowley. He married 21 Dec 1752 in Rowley, Elizabeth Stickney [2840.4.7.1], daughter of John Stickney (1700-1760) and Ann Lull. Elizabeth was born 3 Aug 1730 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 16 Jan 1801 in Rowley.

2832.4.9.5. Margaret Harriman was born 23 Feb 1733/34 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts. She married her cousin Moses Burpee [1416.5.6], son of Ebenezer Burpee (1697-1771) and Miriam Pearson (1695-1782). Moses was born 26 Dec 1733 in Rowley, and died 11 Nov 1826. Margaret and Moses are second cousins, both being descended from 2832 Thomas Burpee and Sarah Kelly.

They had six children, list under Moses.

2832.4.10. Lydia Spofford was born 25 Apr 1700 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Jul 1753 in Rowley. She married 10 Dec 1722, Jonathan Thurston, son of Daniel Thurston (1661-1738) and Mary Dresser (1667-1735). Jonathan was born 16 Mar 1700/01 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 28 Sep 1738 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts.

Lydia and Jonathan had two children that we know of, there were probably others (second cousins to us):

2832.4.10.1. John Thurston was born 19 Aug 1723 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Aug 1807. John (also seen as Jonathan Thurston) married 15 Mar 1743/44 in Rowley, his cousin Hepzibah Burpee [1416.5.1], daugher of Ebenezer Burpee (1697-1771) and Miriam Pearson (1695-1782). Hepzibah was born 3 Oct 1722 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 10 Apr 1766. Jonathan and Hepzibah are second cousins, both being descended from 2832 Thomas Burpee and Sarah Kelly.

2832.4.10.2. Samuel Thurston was born 7 Jun 1727 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1806. He married his cousin Priscilla Burpee [1416.5.4], daughter of Ebenezer Burpee (1697-1771) and Miriam Pearson (1695-1782). Priscilla was born 18 Jan 1728 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1811.

2832.4.11. Elizabeth Spofford was born 5 Jul 1702 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 10 Jan 1789. She married Jan 1730/31, Benjamin Stickney [2838.6.2.1], son of Benjamin Stickney (1673-1756) and Mary Palmer (1674-~1747). Benjamin was born 28 Sep 1701 in Rowley, and died 12 Mar 1756 in Rowley.

Elizabeth and Benjamin had seven children (both second and third cousins to us):

2832.4.11.1. Elizabeth Stickney was born 25 May 1733 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Aug 1736, age 3.

2832.4.11.2. Benjamin Stickney was born about Mar 1735/36 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Oct 1736, age 7 months.

He married first, 3 Jan 1758 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, Sarah Metcalf, daughter of Joseph Metcalf (1681 MA - 1761 MA) and Sarah Ayers (1685-1757). Sarah was born in 1737 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 5 Sep 1764 in Rowley. Benjamin married second, 15 May 1765 in Rowley, his first cousin Elizabeth Stickney [2838.6.2.5.3], daughter of Samuel Stickney (1708-1778) and Faith Platts (1710-1801). Elizabeth was born 3 Jun 1737 in Rowley, and died 28 Aug 1819. Benjamin and Elizabeth are first cousins, through 2838.6.2 Mary Palmer and Benjamin Stickney.

Benjamin served in the Revolutionary War. In April 1775 his militia company marched for Lexington, but the battle was over before they got there. In December 1776 he served 3 months in a Massachusetts company stationed in New York State. In May 1777 he enlisted again for 8 months.

2832.4.11.4. Thomas Stickney was born 18 Feb 1740/41 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 25 Sep 1758 in Rowley.

2832.4.11.5. Elizabeth Stickney was born about 1742 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 18 Sep 1758 in Rowley, age 16.

2832.4.11.6. Sarah Stickney was born 16 Jul 1743 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 4 Jul 1822 in Rowley. She married 2 Feb 1768, her cousin Jedediah Stickney [2838.6.2.5.4], son of Samuel Stickney (1708-1778) and Faith Platts (1710-1801). Jedediah was born 5 May 1739 in Rowley, and died on 19 Mar 1815 in Rowley. Sarah and Jedediah are first cousins, through 2838.6.2 Mary Palmer and Benjamin Stickney. They had five children.

2832.4.11.7. Amos Stickney was born 16 May 1746 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 27 Jan 1839 in Rowley. He married 7 Jun 1770, Lucy Searle, daughter of Samuel Searle and Elizabeth Dickinson. Lucy was born in 1746 in Rowley, and died 8 Oct 1826 in Rowley.

2832.6.  Mary Burpee was born 21 Oct 1675 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Jun 1732 in Rowley. She married 13 May 1700 in Rowley, Samuel Dresser, son of Samuel Dresser (1643-1704) and Mary Leaver (1649-1714). Samuel was born 23 Aug 1673 in Rowley, and died 2 Nov 1752 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts. Samuel's brother Joseph marries 1408.1 Elizabeth Kilbourn, and a descendant of his brother John marries 176.5 Patricia Kilbourn.

She married on 1 Apr 1727 in Ipswich, Thomas Safford, son of Thomas Safford and Ellinor Setchwell. Thomas was born 28 Apr 1700 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1776 in Ipswich. Some have 1703 for his birth.

Sarah and two of their children died within 2 months of each other, leaving Thomas with only the youngest.

He married first, 9 Apr 1730, Mary Pemberton [2844.6.8], daughter of John Pemberton (1689-1753) and Martha Cheney (1673-1729). Mary was born 25 Nov 1711 in Bradford (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 26 Feb 1762 in Rowley. Daniel married second, on 2 Dec 1762, Elizabeth Barker, daughter of James Barker (1686-1764) and Sarah Wicom. Elizabeth was born 5 Feb 1715/16 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 12 Apr 1792 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts. We don't know of any children from the second marriage.

She married 26 Sep 1752 in Rowley, Samuel Pickard [5678.2.6.7.3], son of Joseph Pickard (1700-1797) and Sarah Jewett (1707-1802). Samuel was born in 1733 and died on 7 Nov 1778. There is not complete agreement on this -- some have Samuel married to a different Mary Dresser.

She married 6 Dec 1733, Jacob Perkins, son of Jacob Perkins and Sarah Kinsman. Jacob was born 3 Jan 1689/90 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1758 in Ipswich. He had previously been married to Elizabeth Kinsman.

2832.6.3.1. Sarah Perkins was born in 1742 and died in 1816. She married 12 Oct 1765 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts, Ebenezer Lord, son of Philip Lord and Tryphena Staniford. Ebenezer was born 23 Mar 1739/40 in Ipswich, and died 2 May 1810 in Ipswich. He served in the Revolutionary War, in several different militia companies.

2832.6.4. Samuel Dresser was born 23 May 1707 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died Feb 1798 in Ipswich (Essex) Massachusetts. He married twice, and had children from both marriages.

Samuel married first, 26 Apr 1732 in Rowley, Dorothy Boynton, daughter of John Boynton (1678-1718) and Bethia Platts (1689-1767). Dorothy was born on 13 May 1708 in Rowley, and died 22 Aug 1761 in Rowley.

Samuel married second, 25 May 1762, Priscilla Jewett [2838.12.3.4], daughter of Aquila Jewett (1684-1760) and Martha Pearson (1689-1752). Priscilla was born 21 May 1733 in Rowley.

He married 29 Dec 1795, Rachel Story, daughter of Joseph Story and Rachel Lowe. Rachel was born 10 Sep 1774 in Essex Co, Massachusetts, and died on 13 Feb 1869 in Sutton (Merrimack) New Hampshire.

Samuel served in the Revolutionary War. Rachel and Samuel moved to Sutton, New Hampshire about 1812, with eight children; two more were born there.

John was born 20 Sep 1736 in Rowley, and died 28 Jun 1814. His place of death is disputed, some have Rowley and some have New Brunswick, Canada.
