Rita’s Family: Ancestors of Helen Spencer

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.   HOME

John Kilbourn and Rebecca ___

704. John Kilbourn {a,b} was born 12 May 1700 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 4 Apr 1753 in Milford (Worcester) Massachusetts. He is a son of Isaac Kilbourne [1408] and Mary Cheney [1409]. John married in 1717 in Massachusetts,

705. Rebecca ___ {a,b}. Rebecca was born probably about about 1700.

I am not liking this fit, and expect that there is some error. John is only 17 years old at marriage, and Isaac born immediately. Source {b} is in direct conflict with this, having a marriage date of 1700 (but no birth date). I also don’t like the death date, which coincides with the date given for John’s grandson, also named John. I think there is some confusion due to the Isaac/John/Isaac/John/Isaac sequence, and probably some errors in transcribing dates.

John and Rebecca had two children that we know of, there are probably others:

704.1. Isaac Kilbourn [352] (b. 1717 MA) and Joanna Ordway are direct ancestors, separate page.

704.2. Joseph Kilbourn {c} was born probably in 1727 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died in 1789. He was married, but we don’t know the name of his wife. They moved to Lancaster (later called Sterling) (Worcester) Massachusetts, where Joseph was a deacon. We know of his existence only from source {c}, who did not know the parents but mentioned Joseph as a brother of Isaac.
Joseph and his wife had four children (first cousins to us):

704.2.1. Timothy Kilbourn {c} was born in 1754 in Lancaster (Worcester) Massachusetts (now Sterling), and died in 1838 in Sterling. He married Relief Richardson.
Timothy and Relief had at least two children (second cousins to us):

704.2.1.1. James Kilbourn {c} was born in 1780 in Sterling (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died in 1828 in Sterling. He married in 1812, Anna Beaman. James and Anna had four children (Rebecca, James, Samuel, and Sarah).

704.2.1.2. Samuel Kilbourn {c} was born probably in the 1780’s.

704.2.2. Joseph Kilbourn {c} was born 23 Nov 1755 in Lancaster (Worcester) Massachusetts (now Sterling), and died 27 Feb 1868 in Wendall, Massachusetts. He graduated Harvard in 1777, and was ordained a Congregational minister.

704.2.3. Joshua Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around 1760 in Lancaster (Worcester) Massachusetts (now Sterling), and died about 1834. He married Phebe Brooks.
Joshua and Phebe had seven children (second cousins to us):

704.2.3.1. Sawyer Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.2. Timothy Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.3. Polly Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.4. Nancy Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.5. Samuel Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.6. George Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.
704.2.3.7. Timothy Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around the 1780’s or 1790’s.

704.2.4. Levi Kilbourn {c} was born probably sometime around 1760 in Lancaster (Worcester) Massachusetts (now Sterling).
