These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. Arie DeLong and Rachel Ferguson

374. Arie DeLong was born in 1719 in Kingston (Ulster) New York, and died 20 Jan 1798 in Beekman (Dutchess) New York. He is a son of Jonas DeLange [784] and Blandina Peersen [749]. Arie married

374.1. Arie DeLong (~1756 NY - d. Canada) had descendants and is expanded below.

374.2. Jonas DeLong was born in 1757 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married in 1778 in Dutchess County, his cousin Rachel Losee [1496.2.3.1.1], daughter of Frans Losee and Sarah Brown. (Some have Rachel’s sister Anna married to Jonas, we have Anna married to 374.4 Richard. As we have no death dates for any of them, it is at least possible that Jonas and Anna could be a second marriage.) Rachel was born 9 Apr 1758. Rachel and Jonas are second cousins once removed, both being descended from 1496 Adrianus DeLange and Rachel Pier.

374.3. John DeLong was born 9 Apr 1759 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married Amy Sayres.

374.6. Eleanor DeLong [187] (~1764 NY) and Israel Vail are direct ancestors, separate page.

374.7. Blandina DeLong was born about Nov 1765 in Dutchess Co, New York. She was called Dinah. She married Hendrick Hegeman.

374.1. Arie DeLong was born about 1756 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died in Ontario, Canada. Arie was called Ora. He married about 1785 in Dutchess County, Jannetje VanVleckeren, daughter of Jan VanVleckeren (~1735->1779) and Helena Bulsen. Jannetje was born about 1761 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died in Prince Edward County (Ontario) Canada. She was baptized 19 Apr 1761 in Fishkill (Dutchess) New York. We don’t know when they moved to Canada. Some of their grandchildren were born there as early as 1820, but we also know that their son James, who stayed in New York, was only eighteen at that time. Probably some of the older children had moved to Canada in the late 1810’s, but Arie and Jannetje may have followed later. It is also possible that James moved to Canada with his parents, then returned to New York when he came of age.

374.1.2. John DeLong was born 27 Jan 1792 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died in 1871 in Durham (Ontario) Canada. He married Abigail Capron, daughter of Joseph Capron and Roxy Woodward. Abigail was born in Ontario, Canada.
John and Abigail had six children (second cousins to us):

374.1.2.1. David DeLong was born in 1835 in Ontario, Canada, and died in 1914 in Ontario. He married Jane Fisher, daughter of William Fisher and Hannah Robinson. Jane was born in 1838 in England, and died in Canada.

374.1.2.2. James Henry DeLong was born about 1838 in Ontario, Canada, and died 14 Oct 1899 in Ontario. He married Hannah Fisher, daughter of John Fisher and Catherine Hutty. Hannah was born about 1840 in England, and died in Canada.

374.1.2.3. Jannetje DeLong (Twin) was born about 1841 in Durham (Ontario) Canada. She was called Jane.

374.1.2.4. Elizabeth DeLong (Twin) was born about 1841 in Durham (Ontario) Canada.

374.1.4. Heyltje DeLong (called Helen DeLong) was born 3 Dec 1795 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 12 Mar 1883 in Ontario, Canada. She married Enoch Orser. Enoch was born in1802 in Ontario, Canada, and died 1 Oct 1888 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada.
Heyltje and Enoch had four children (second cousins to us):

374.1.4.3. Gilbert Orser was born in 1829 in Ontario, Canada. He married 18 Jan 1878 in Stirling (Ontario) Canada, Sarah Eliza Winston, daughter of Thomas Winston and Mary ___. Sarah was born in 1849 in Ontario, Canada.

374.1.5. Phebe DeLong was born 8 Mar 1798 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 18 Sep 1893 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada. She married Gilbert Barton, son of Isaac Barton. Gilbert was born 16 Aug 1800 in Ontario, Canada, and died 8 May 1849 in Ontario. His sister married Phebe’s brother Arra.
Phebe and Gilbert had six children (second cousins to us):

374.1.5.1. Sarah Jane Barton was born in 1822 in Ontario, Canada, and died in Ontario. She married David Gilbert Wellman. David was born in 1820 in Ontario, Canada.

374.1.5.2. William Barton was born 2 Aug 1824 in Ontario, Canada, and died 19 Nov 1902 in Ontario. He married Margaret Young. Margaret was born 14 Jun 1823 in Perth (Ontario) Canada, and died 17 Dec 1902 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada.

374.1.5.3. Francis J. Barton was born 4 Aug 1826 in Ontario, Canada, and died 28 Mar 1840 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada, age 13.

374.1.5.4. Aaron Barton was born 10 Jun 1830 in Prince Edward Co (Ontario) Canada, and died 13 Jan 1916 in Ontario. He married Nancy Alquire. Nancy was born in 1837 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada, and died 21 Aug 1897.

374.1.5.5. Isaac Barton was born in 1835 in Ontario, Canada, and died sometime after 1910 in Grand Forks (Grand Forks) North Dakota. He married Hannah Abbott, daughter of William Abbott and Margaret ___. Hannah was born about 1836 in Ontario, Canada, and died 28 Feb 1897.

374.1.5.6. Gilbert M. Barton was born 18 Jun 1838 in Hastings Co (Ontario) Canada, and died 23 Feb 1860 in Hastings County.

374.1.6. Richard DeLong was born 8 Apr 1800 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 13 Feb 1861 in Durham Co (Ontario) Canada.

374.1.7. Arra DeLong was born probably sometime between 1800 and 1805 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 9 Nov 1869 in Ontario, Canada. He married Dianna Barton (called Anna Barton), daughter of Isaac Barton. Dianna was born sometime around 1800 in Canada, and died 9 Jul 1874 in Ontario, Canada. Her brother married Arra’s sister Phebe.

374.1.7.1. Diana DeLong was born in 1827 in Ontario, Canada, and died in 1903 in Ontario. She married 6 Jan 1846 in Ontario, George Gerow. George was born in 1826.

374.1.7.2. Gilbert DeLong was born about 1828 in Ontario, Canada. He married Ann Hutchison. Ann was born in 1821 in Ontario, Canada.

374.1.7.4. Isaac DeLong was born in 1834 in Ontario, Canada, and died 19 Feb 1886 in Ontario. He married Mary Ellen Thornton. Mary was born in 1834 in Ontario, Canada.

374.1.7.5. Arra DeLong was born about 1835 in Ontario, Canada, and died in 1909 in Manitoba, Canada. He married Adeline Jane Clark. Adeline was born in 1841 in Ontario, Canada.

374.1.7.6. Egbert DeLong was born 15 Feb 1839 in Ontario, Canada, and died in 1910 in Ontario. He married Mary Elizabeth Ruttan. Mary was born on 15 Feb 1853 in Ontario, Canada, and died in 1924 in Ontario.

374.1.8. James Henry DeLong was born in 1802 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married Polly Ostrander, daughter of Peter Ostrander and Catherine Perslo. Polly was born in 1800.

374.1.8.2. Sophia R. DeLong was born in 1821 in Jamesville (Onondaga) New York, and died 26 Apr 1886 in Hastings Center (Oswego) ew York. She married Silas Hammond. Silas was born Apr 1813 in Wayne Co, New York, and died 10 Mar 1896 in Hastings Center (Oswego) New York.

374.1.9. Peter DeLong was born 5 Feb 1805 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 24 Oct 1872 in Durham Co (Ontario) Canada. He married Silence Waite, daughter of Montilion Waite and Lydia Douglas. Silence was born 27 May 1810 in New York, and died 17 Dec 1883 in Ontario, Canada.
Peter and Silence had four children (second cousins to us):

374.1.9.1. James A. DeLong was born Feb 1836, and died 18 Nov 1903 in Greenbank (Ontario) Canada. He married Catherine Camplin, daughter of James Camplin and Mary Wilkinson. Catherine was born 3 Jun 1837 in Troi-Rivieres (Quebec) Canada, and died 13 Nov 1914 in Greenbank (Ontario) Canada.

374.1.9.2. Peter DeLong was born 30 Nov 1838 in Brooklin (Ontario) Canada. He married Susannah Powell. Susannah was born 14 Jun 1838 in Whitby (Ontario) Canada, and died 14 Nov 1913.

374.1.9.3. Oscar DeLong was born about 1841 in Ontario, Canada, and died about 1879 in the United States. He married Annie Rhoxine Leader, daughter of William Leader and Lucy Waite. Annie was born in 1848.

374.1.9.4. Horatio DeLong was born 17 May 1843 in Ontario, Canada, and died 20 Jun 1845 in Ontario.

374.4. Richard DeLong was born about 1761 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married his cousin Anna Losee [1496.2.3.1.2], daughter of Frans Losee and Sarah Brown. Some have Anna married to Richard’s brother Jonas; this might be a second marriage, or simply an error. Anna and Richard are second cousins once removed, both being descended from 1496 Adrianus DeLange and Rachel Pier.

374.8. Hannah W. DeLong was born about 1768 in Dutchess Co, New York. She married her cousin John F. Losee [1496.2.3.1.3], son of Frans Losee and Sarah Brown. John and Hannah are second cousins once removed, both being descended from 1496 Adrianus DeLange and Rachel Pier.

374.8.6. James D. Losee was born about 1800 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 10 Aug 1871 in Somonauk (Dekalb) Illinois. He married Annie Noxon. Annie was born 15 Aug 1802 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died 7 May 1872 in Somonauk (Dekalb) Illinois.

374.10. James DeLong was born in 1773 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married 1 Jun 1800 in Hopewell (Dutchess) New York, his cousin Sarah Losee [1496.2.3.1.8], daughter of Frans Losee and Sarah Brown. Sarah was born in 1781 in Beekman (Dutchess) New York, and died in 1832. Sarah and James are second cousins once removed, both being descended from 1496 Adrianus DeLange and Rachel Pier.
