| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. 330. John Dickey was born about 1703 in Belfast (Antrim) Ireland (now Northern Ireland), and died 13 Feb 1789 in York (York) South Carolina. He is a son of George Dickey [660] and Margaret Walker [661]. John married about 1736 in Northern Ireland,
331. Martha McNeeley. Martha was born about 1705 in Northern Ireland, and died probably in South Carolina. She is a daughter of George McNeeley [662] and Sarah Rutledge [663].
John and Martha were married in 1736 in northern Ireland, and the following year they immigrated to Albemarle County, Virginia. Most of their children were born there. They moved to York City, South Carolina, at least by 1770, possibly as early as 1755. They were farmers, raising grain and tobacco. At least one son (3. George) fought in the Revolutionary War. Their children scattered to seven different states.

330.2. John L. Dickey was born 25 Aug 1740 in Albemarle
Co, Virginia, and died 22 Mar 1801 in York (York) South Carolina. He married Sara Robinson.
John and Sara had one known child (first cousin to us):
330.2.1. William F. Dickey was born 1783 in South Carolina, and died 1877 in Kentucky.
330.3. George Dickey was born 15 Apr 1742 in Albemarle Co, Virginia, and died 4 Aug 1817 in Huntsville (Madison) Alabama. He married Mary Scott. George served in the Revolutionary War, from South Carolina.
330.4. Ebner Dickey was born 17 Nov 1744 in Albemarle Co, Virginia, and died about 1746 in Albemarle Co, Virginia at less than 2 years.
330.5. Robert Dickey (1745 VA - 1817 OH) had descendants and is expanded below.
330.6. David Dickey was born 18 Oct 1747 in Albemarle Co, Virginia, and died 7 Nov 1823 in Washington (Daviess) Indiana. He married first, Margaret Robeson. David married second, Margaret Stephenson.
330.7. Eleanor Dickey was born 18 Oct 1749 in Albemarle Co, Virginia, and died sometime after 1784 in South Carolina. She married John Tisdale.
330.8. Mary Dickey was born 11 Apr 1753 in Albemarle Co, Virginia, and died 12 Dec 1834 in Livingston Co, Kentucky. She married James Hillhouse.
330.9. Martha Dickey was born 12 Jan 1756 in Albemarle Co, Virginia or York Co, South Carolina, twin sister to William. She married Hugh Wilson.
330.10. William Dickey was born 12 Jan 1756 in Albemarle Co, Virginia or York Co, South Carolina, twin brother to Martha.
330.5. Robert Dickey was born 25 Nov 1745 in Albemarle
Co, Virginia, and died 21 May 1817 in South Salem (Ross) Ohio. He married
twice and had children from both marriages. Robert married first, in 1772 in South Carolina,
Margaret Hillhouse. Margaret was born in 1750 in Pennsylvania, and died in 1778 in Ohio. Robert served in the South
Carolina General Assembly during the Revolutionary War (1776).
Robert and Margaret had three children (first cousin to us):
330.5.1. John Dickey was born 20 Feb 1773 in York (York) South Carolina, and died 22 Sep 1850 in Giles Co, Tennessee. He married 19 Jul 1796 in Logan Co, Kentucky, Margaret Ross, daughter of James R. Ross (1741 Ireland - ) and Mary Mitchell. Margaret was born about 1770 in Ireland, and died in 1812 in Tennessee. John moved to Kentucky in 1793. He fought in the Indian Wars under General Anthony Wayne (1794-1795). John and Margaret moved to Tennessee in 1808.
330.5.2. William Dickey was born 6 Dec 1774 in Bullocks Creek (York) South Carolina, and died 5 Dec 1857 in Bloomingburg (Fayette) Ohio. He married Rebecca Ross, daughter of James R. Ross (1741 Ireland - ) and Mary Mitchell. Rebecca was born sometime around 1775, probably in North Carolina.
330.5.3. Martha Dickey (called Patsy Dickey) was born 9 Dec 1776 in South Carolina, and died about 1828 in Rock Springs, Illinois. She married ___ Ross, son of James R. Ross (1741 Ireland - ) and Mary Mitchell.
Robert married second, 25 Jan 1780 in York (York) South Carolina, Mary Henry, daughter
of James Henry and Agnes Mitchell. Mary was born in 1755 in South Carolina, and died 1812 in Livingston Co,
Kentucky. They were Presbyterian.
Robert and Mary had seven children (first cousin to us):
330.5.4. James Henry Dickey was born 24 Oct 1780 in York (York) South Carolina, and died in 1870.
330.5.5. Mary (Polly) Dickey was born 7 Sep 1784 in York (York) South
Carolina, and died 3 Sep 1843 in Pope Co, Arkansas. She married Robert Ross, son of James R. Ross (1741 Ire - ) and
Mary Mitchell. Robert was born 1780 in North Carolina, and died in 1849 in Pope Co, Arkansas.
Polly and Robert had six children (second cousin to us):
330.5.5.1. Theron Harvey Ross was born in 1807 in Tennessee. He married Louisa Yancey.
330.5.5.2. James Mitchell Ross was born in 1809 in Tennessee. He married Hannah ___.
330.5.5.3. Robert Ross was born in 1815 in Tennessee, and died about 1840 in Arkansas.
330.5.5.4. Dr. John Dickey Ross was born 27 Mar 1818 in Tennessee, and died 23 Dec 1878. He married Nancy Ann Allen.
330.5.5.5. Rebecca Ross was born 24 Mar 1821 in Arkansas, and died 10 Jun 1886 in Navarro Co, Texas. She married William M. Leonard.
330.5.5.6. Dr. Samuel Alexander Ross was born 16 Apr 1824 in Arkansas, and died 22 Feb 1883 in Navarro Co, Texas.
