These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.		HOME

William Daugherty and Elizabeth ____

The placement of this family is disputed. Some researchers have it as I have presented here, but some eliminate this William and Elizabeth entirely, and make our ancestor 162 Joseph to be a son of William Sr. [648] and Elizabeth Bunch. The persistence of the names William and Elizabeth through three generations does not help. If we look at the dates of birth of the children listed here, and the children of William Sr. and Elizabeth Bunch, it is at least possible that all of them could be the children of William Sr. The lack of any names in common between the two families, other than William and the daughters Elizabeth (who are both born about 1750 and could therefore be the same person) tends to support the one-family version. I have not seen any original materials, and am only trying to present what seems to be the consensus of other works, accepting that these may all be passing on the same errors.

324.1. Joseph Daugherty [162] (1749 VA - 1825 VA) and Elizabeth Drake are direct ancestors, separate page.

324.3. George Daugherty (~1750 VA - 1833 KY) had descendants and is expanded below.

324.6. William Daugherty (1761 VA - 1835 VA) had descendants and is expanded below.

324.3. George Daugherty was born probably in the early 1750’s in Augusta Co, Virginia, and died in 1833 in Jefferson Co, Kentucky. He married Priscilla Goforth.
George and Priscilla had three children (first cousins to us):

324.3.1. Josiah Daugherty was born in 1777 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in Polk Co, Tennessee. He married Nancy Lee Edwards. Nancy was born in 1783 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in Polk Co, Tennessee.
Josiah and Nancy had two children (second cousins to us):

324.3.1.1. Rachel Edwards Daugherty was born 12 May 1820 in Tennessee. She married Thomas McCoy. He was born in Tennessee.

324.4. James Daugherty was born probably in the 1750’s in Augusta Co, Virginia. The name of his wife is unknown.
James had four children (first cousins to us):

324.4.1. John Daugherty was born about 1776 in Virginia. He married 2 Oct 1797 in Lincoln Co, Kentucky, Mary Magill, the daughter of William. Mary was born 10 Jun 1779 in Virginia.

324.6. William Daugherty was born in 1761 in Virginia, and died 23 Dec 1835 in Lee Co, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Harber.
William and Elizabeth had two children (first cousins to us):

324.6.1. Charles Daugherty was born about 1808 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in 1882. He married Mary F. Trotter. Mary was born in 1811 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in 1883.

324.6.2. James J. Daugherty was born 15 Oct 1811 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in Jasper Co, Missouri. He married twice and had children from both.

James married first, 23 Sep 1834 in Lee Co, Virginia, Nancy Flanary. Nancy was born in 1804 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in 1863 in Andrew Co, Missouri. They moved to Missouri about 1838.
James and Nancy had fourteen children (second cousins to us), seven of whom died young:

324.6.2.1. Charles Daugherty was born 1 Jul 1835 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died 17 May 1848 in Andrew Co, Missouri, age 12.

324.6.2.2. James F. Daugherty was born 11 Dec 1836 in Lee Co, Virginia, and died in Carthage (Jasper) Missouri. He married Susan Flanary.

324.6.2.3. John P. Daugherty was born 7 May 1839 in Platte Co, Missouri, and died 30 Sep 1864. His age and date of death suggests possible Civil War, but we have not found anything on him.

324.6.2.4. William Monroe Daugherty was born 1 Mar 1841 in Platte Co, Missouri, and died 4 Dec 1933. He married Elverda Shanks.

324.6.2.5. Rachel Maria Daugherty was born 4 Dec 1843 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died in Howell, Missouri. She married W. Edson.

324.6.2.6. Thomas J. Daugherty was born 23 Mar 1844 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died 18 Dec 1866.

324.6.2.7. Sarah Ann Daugherty was born 5 Mar 1846 in Andrew Co, Missouri. She was called Sally.

324.6.2.8. Nancy Jane Daugherty was born 23 Mar 1848 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died 2 Feb 1851 in Andrew Co, age 2.

324.6.2.9. Joshua Daugherty was born 11 Mar 1850 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died the same year.

324.6.2.11. Rebecca Emaree Daugherty was born 6 Jan 1852 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died 5 Feb 1867 in Jasper Co, Missouri, age 15.

324.6.2.12. Mary L. Daugherty was born 6 Apr 1855 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died 1 Feb 1867 in Andrew Co, age 11.

324.6.2.13. Charles M. Daugherty was born 16 Dec 1857 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died about 1921.

324.6.2.14. Archibald C. Daugherty was born 30 May 1859 in Andrew Co, Missouri, and died 10 Mar 1933 in Washington. He was called Archer.

James married second, 1 Dec 1865 in Andrew Co, Missouri, Polly Lawrence. They moved to Jasper County about 1866. That area had been desolated during the Civil War, so there was probably a lot of land available.
James and Polly had two children (second cousins to us):
