These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. Israel Vail and Eleanor DeLong

186. Israel Vail was born in 1761 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died in 1822 in Clinton (Clinton) New York. He is a son of Isaac Vail [372] and Lavinia Ketcham [373]. Israel married 11 Oct 1782,

186.2. Hannah Vail [93] (~1784 NY - 1854) and John P. Cookingham are direct ancestors, separate page.

186.4. Isaac Vail was born probably sometime around 1790 in New York. He married Catherine Scudder.
Isaac and Catherine had one child that we know of, there were probably others (first cousin to us):

186.6. Sarah Vail was born probably sometime around 1790 in New York. She married twice, to Elijah Bugbee and to Philip Germond. We are not sure of the order of the marriages, and have no marriage or death dates.

186.1. Lavina Vail was born in 1783 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died about 1870 in Reads Landing (Wabasha) Minnesota. She married 7 Nov 1802 in Pleasant Valley (Dutchess) New York, Peter Hallock. Peter was born about 1780 and died in 1839. Peter served in the Revolutionary War, supposed to have been Captain of a militia company from Wyoming Valley Pennsylvania.
Lavina and Peter had ten children (first cousins to us), birth dates for most are unknown:

186.1.5. Phoebe Ann Hallock was born 17 Sep 1810, and died 7 Aug 1848. She married Stephen Lord, son of Alexander Lord. Stephen was born about 1810 in Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania, and died 21 Mar 1891. He was a farmer and a carpenter.
Phoebe and Stephen had six children, but we know only one (second cousin to us):

186.1.5.1. Angeline Lord (also seen as Angelina Lord) was born 9 Mar 1833 in Luzerne Co, Pennsylvania. She married first, James Randall. They had four children. Angeline married second, Jonas Serfass. Jonas was born 18 May 1824 in Monroe Co, Pennsylvania. He was Lutheran, Angeline was Methodist Episcopalian.

186.1.7. Harriet Hallock was born probably sometime around 1815. She married Abraham Howe.

186.3. Mary Vail was born 17 Dec 1785 in Dutchess Co, New York. She married 12 Sep 1802 in Pleasant Valley (Dutchess) New York, James Losee. James was born 23 Oct 1780 in Dutchess Co, New York, and died in 1852.
Mary and James had seven children (first cousins to us):

186.7. Rachel Vail was born in 1791 in New York, and died 3 Feb 1818. She married David Hoag. David was born 6 May 1784 in Dutchess County, New York.

186.9. Micah Vail was born probably around 1790 in New York. He married about 1810, Mary Germond. Mary was born 19 Aug 1792, and died 26 Aug 1870.

186.9.2. Horatio Nelson Vail was born 14 Feb 1812 in New York, and died 28 May 1852 in San Francisco (San Francisco) California. He married Elizabeth Daggett Kensett. Elizabeth was born 11 Aug 1817.
Horatio and Elizabeth had ten children (second cousins to us):

186.9.2.1. Julia Daggett Vail was born probably sometime in the 1830’s in New York.

186.9.2.2. Harriet Daggett Vail was born 28 Nov 1834 in New York, and died 2 Sep 1851. She married Horace Ketcham.

186.9.2.4. Horatio Nelson Vail was born 6 Nov 1837 in New York, New York. He married Anne Van Der Poel Metcalf.

186.9.2.5. Edward Harrison Vail was born 15 Jul 1839 in New York, New York. He married Anna Elizabeth Murphy.

186.9.2.7. Mary Elizabeth Vail was born 1 Oct 1843 in Newark (Essex) New Jersey.

186.9.2.9. James Belknap Vail was born 17 Jun 1848 in New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut.

186.9.3. Israel Vail was born 15 Dec 1814 in New York. He married 1839 in Brooklyn (Kings) New York, Gertrude Peacock.
Israel and Gertrude had three children (second cousins to us):

186.9.3.3. Herbert Vail was born probably sometime around 1850, and died 4 Mar 1896 in New York. He married Mary Elizabeth Price.

186.9.4. Edward Vail was born 7 Oct 1816 in New York. He married 7 Nov 1844 in Wolver Hollow, New York, Elizabeth Ann Peacock.

186.9.5. Mary Vail was born 19 Dec 1818 in New York. She married 10 Sep 1847, Charles A. Merrick.

186.11. Diana Vail was born 17 Aug 1801 in Clinton (Clinton) New York, and died 27 Feb 1872 in Beloit (Rock) Wisconsin. She married 4 Jan 1821 in Poughkeepsie (Dutchess) New York, Isaac H. VerValen. Isaac was born 3 Oct 1792 in Poughkeepsie (Dutchess) New York, and died 27 Oct 1880 in Beloit (Rock) Wisconsin.
