Rita’s Family: Ancestors of Helen Spencer

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.   HOME

Napoleon Cicero Spencer and Grace Kilburn

NOTABLES: 10.5. Rosine is our main source for much of the Spencer family ancestry

10. Napoleon Cicero Spencer {a,b,d,e,f} was born 17 Sep 1869 in Jasper Co, Missouri, and died 3 Jun 1950 in Salem (Dent) Missouri. He is a son of James Frances Spencer [20] and Mary Charlotte Caldwell [21]. He usually went by the name Cicero. He married 22 Jan 1890 in Marion Twp (Jasper) Missouri,

11. Grace Kilburn {a,b,c,e,f}. She was born 16 Aug 1869 in New London (Huron) Ohio, and died in 1902 in Carthage (Jasper) Missouri. She is a daughter of Henry Clay Kilburn [22] and Helen Cookingham [23]. Cicero and Grace are buried in Carthage (Jasper) Missouri.

N. Cicero was Baptist, and Grace was Methodist; they raised their children as Methodist. Cicero was a furniture maker and undertaker; the two jobs quite often went together back then, since the furniture maker would be the one who made the coffins.

Grace’s birth is recorded in Norwalk (Huron) Ohio (just a single line entry in a book, no certificate to copy). Cicero appears in the 1880 census in Missouri, and both Cicero and Grace appear in the 1900 census.
