Rita’s Family: Ancestors of Arthur Sorenson

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.   HOME

Perr Perrson and Signa Berg

78. Perr Perrson {a,b} was born sometime around 1790 in Sweden, and died in Sweden. He married about 1810 in Sweden,

79. Signa Berg {a,b}. Signa was born sometime around 1790 in Sweden, and died in Sweden.
They were Lutheran.

The giving of last names was less formal than it is today. The old Scandinavian practice was to refer children to the father: thus Perr Perrson is the son of Perr. Starting in the 18th century the Swedish government started encouraging people to take permanent last names, which very often referred to natural features. Thus we have Signa Berg (Mountain). These were simply names picked for convenience, and they do not imply that the family actually lived near a mountain. The intent was to have a permanent name passed down within the family, but it was not mandatory: Perr and Signa chose to name their daughter Waldo (Forest).

Perr and Signa probably had several children, but we only know of one:

78.1. Meta Waldo [39] and Lars Christoferson are direct ancestors, separate page.
