Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Donald Hawley

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.   HOME

Charles Bellrichard and Julie Ettrick

NOTABLES:

54 Charles Belrichard served in the Civil War (died)
54.3 Alfred Belrichard served in the Civil War

54. Charles Henry Belrichard {a,c,e} was born about 1804 in Switzerland, and died 18 Jul 1862 in St. Louis, Missouri. Charles married in Switzerland,

55. Julie Ettrick {a,c}. Mary was born about 1807 in Switzerland, and died 11 May 1887 in Prairie du Chien (Crawford) Wisconsin.

Belrichard is French, probably derived from the name Richard; Bel I think usually means fair. The Schwartz Collection {b} gives the name as Belleshire. I could not find anything on the meaning of Ettrick, but I think it is a safe guess that it is German in origin.

They came to America with all of their children, arriving in New York in Sep 1852 on the Isaac Bell.

Charles served in the Civil War, enlisting in the 8th Wisconsin Infantry on 13 Aug 1861. He may have been in several battles in southeast Missouri, but at some point was removed to St. Louis due to illness, where he died.

Charles and Julie had six children:

54.1. Henry Belrichard {a,c,d} was born about 1836 in Switzerland, and died probably around 1910, probably in Illinois. He married first, probably about 1862 in Switzerland, Edith ___. Edith was born probably around 1840 and died sometime before 1887. Henry married second, 22 Jan 1887 in Kane County Illinois, Ida M. Schoene. Ida was born about 1864 in Switzerland.

54.2. August Belrichard {a,c} was born about 1839 in Switzerland. He married Adele ___. Adele was born about 1847 in Canada.

54.3. Alfred Belrichard (1840 Switz - 1919 WI) had descendants and is expanded below.

54.4. Sophia Belrichard (1844 Switz - 1931 WI) had descendants and is expanded below.

54.5. Elizabeth Belrichard (1847 Switz - 1921 WI) had descendants and is expanded below.

54.6. Marie Louisa Belrichard [27] {a,b,c} (1852 Switz - 1935 IA) and Lawrence Hannamann are direct ancestors, separate page.

Alfred served in the Civil War, enlisting in the 43rd Wisconsin Infantry on 1 Sep 1864.
Alfred is supposed to be buried in Prairie du Chien, although his wife was buried in Eastman. Perhaps there was another marriage?

Speck and Charlotte A. Ingle. Bessie was born probably sometime around 1880 in Prairie du Chien (Crawford) Wisconsin.
