Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Donald Hawley |
||
| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further. | HOME | |

NOTABLES: 26.8. John L. Hannamann served in WW I |
26. Lawrence John Hannamann {a,b,c} also seen as Larenz Hannaman, was born about 1841 or 1842 in Bavaria (present-day Germany), and died in 1916 in Iowa. His parents are unknown, but we include a page for them to show the descendants of a sister of Lawrence. Lawrence married about 1870 probably in Alsace-Lorraine,
27. Mary Louise Belrichard {a,b,c}. Mary was born in 1852 in Switzerland (some have Alsace-Lorraine), and died 25 Jan 1935 in Iowa. She is a daughter of Charles Belrichard and Julie Ettrick.

| Marriage certificate for Emma Hannamann.
Mary’s last name is undecipherable, sure looks like Bilshirto to me, but is supposed to be Belrichard. Whoever wrote it probably heard it as Belshart. |
Hannamann is German, derived from the first name Hans.
Emma appears in the 1905 Wisconsin census, and gives her father’s birthplace as England. But in the 1910 Wisconsin census, she gives her father’s birthplace as Germany. The 1880 census has both parents born in Germany. Some sources had both Lawrence and Mary from Alsace-Lorraine. Mary usually spoke German in the home. They were living in Fremont (Fayette) Iowa in 1880.
Lawrence and Mary had nine children:
26.1. Lena Hannamann {b,c} was born in 1876 in Iowa, and died in 1911. She married E.E. Meyen. They had two sons.
26.2. Emma B. Hannamann [13] {a,b,c,d} (1878 IA - d. WI) and Walter Hawley are direct ancestors, separate page.

in Iowa. She married Fred Copp. They were farmers at Hawkeye, Iowa.

26.4. Sophia Hannamann {b} was born sometime around 1880 in Iowa, and died before 1900, about 17 years old.
26.5. Susie Hannamann {b} (photo) was born about 1882 in Iowa. She married several times and had children. One of her husbands was Bud Wood, we don’t know the others.

Nov 1885 in Fayette Co, Iowa, and died 14 Aug 1939 in Bremer Co, Iowa.

Edward DeWitt Steggall (1866 IA - 1924 IA) and Julia Lawrence. Elretta
was born 23 Apr 1900 in Fayette Co, Iowa, and died 27 Mar 1985 in
Buchanan Co, Iowa.
George and Elretta had three children (first cousins to us):
