Other Families Allied to Ours

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. This page is different from most: this family is not directly related to us, but is allied through frequent marriages.   HOME

Parmelee Family Connections

This family is not directly related to us. I include this partial descent list due to the frequent intermarriage with our family. I have left out most of the children, including only those who married into our lines.

John Parmelee was born about 1612 in England, and died 31 Jan 1687/88 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. He came to Boston in 1635 on the “Elizabeth and Anne”. John married three times, and children from two marriages merge with our family.
John married first, probably about 1637, Rebecca ___. Rebecca died Sep 1651. Many sources have her as Rebecca Eaton, but this is disputed and probably wrong. It is carried forward from some old genealogies, which identified her as an Eaton in order to force a link to one of the early governors.

John and Rebecca may have had several children, but we only know of one:

A. Nathaniel Parmelee was born about 1645 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 16 Jan 1676 in Albany (Albany) New York. He married 24 Oct 1668, Sarah French, daughter of Thomas French (1620-1679) and Mary Button (1622-1660).
Nathaniel and Sarah had several children, one of whom is listed under Sarah.

John married second, probably around 1652, Anna ___, widow of William Plaine (~1620-1649). Anna was born probably around 1620 and died Mar 1658 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. Her first husband was executed for “corrupting boys”. Anna had several children from her first marriage, of whom we are interested in her daughter, Hannah Plaine. Hannah marries her stepfather John, below. We don’t know of any children from the marriage of John and Anna.

John married third, in 1659, his stepdaughter Hannah Plaine, daughter of William Plaine and Anna ___. Hannah was born about 1640 and died in 1688.
John and Hannah had nine children (John, Joshua, Caleb, Isaac, Hannah, Stephen, Job, Priscilla, Joel), of whom we list:

B. John Parmelee was born 25 Nov 1659 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 21 Mar 1724 in Guilford. He married in 1681 in Guilford, Mary Mason. Mary was born about 1660 and died 24 Apr 1725 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
John and Mary had eight children (Mary, Abigail, Barbara, Stephen, John, Rebecca, Rachel, Deborah), of whom we list four:

B1. Mary Parmelee was born around 1680 and died 22 Jan 1711. She married first, Jonathan Hoyt, and had one daughter (Sarah Hoyt) from that marriage. Mary married second, 5 Jul 1707, John French [7838.2.2], son of Mary Sheather and John French.

B2. Abigail Parmelee was born 20 Jul 1685 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 20 Oct 1776 in Guilford. She married in 1708, Thomas Hodgins [7810.1.5], son of John Hodgins and Mary Bishop.

B5. John Parmelee was born 2 Nov 1691 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 3 Jan 1775 in Guilford. He married 18 Jun 1718, Mary Hubbard, daughter of Daniel Hubbard (1673-1755) and Susannah Bailey. These Hubbards appear to be unrelated to our Hubbard lines, at least back to 1600.
John and Mary probably had several children, but we only know of two:

B51. John Parmelee was born 19 May 1719 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 12 Jan 1799. He married 26 Nov 1740, Jane Cruttenden, daughter of Joseph Crittenden and Mercy Hoyt. Jane was born 23 Feb 1720/21 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 2 Jul 1798.
We list one of their children under Jane.

B52. Mary Parmelee was born 1 Aug 1725 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 24 Sep 1787. She married 21 Jun 1744, Nathaniel Cruttenden [7816.7.8], son of Samuel Cruttenden and Mindwell Meigs.

B8. Deborah Parmelee was born in 1699 and died 10 Jan 1792 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut. She married 11 Jan 1718/19 in Connecticut, John Wilcoxson [15736.8.7], son of Obadiah Wilcoxson and Silence Mansfield.

C. Joshua Parmelee was born about Jun 1663 and died Jun 1729 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. He married Elsie Edwards (seen in different sources as Elsie, Alse, Elsa, or Alice).
