| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. This family is not directly related to us. I include this partial descent list due to the frequent intermarriage with our family. I have left out most of the children, including only those who married into our lines.
George Squire was born about 1618 in England, and died in 1691 in Connecticut. He married
Ann ___. Ann was born probably around 1620 in England.
Three of their lines merge into ours:
a. Thomas Squire was born about 1643, and died 9 Apr 1712 in
Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married Elizabeth ___, said by some to be Elizabeth Grumman.
Thomas and Elizabeth had eight children (Thomas, Samuel, Hannah, Ebenezer, Martha, Sarah, Elizabeth, John), of whom we list one:
a1. Thomas Squire was
born about 1680 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married in Sep 1704, Hannah Welton, daughter of John Welton and Mary
Upson. Hannah was born 1 Apr 1683 in Waterbury (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 3 Apr 1738 in Waterbury.
Thomas and Hannah had nine children (Solomon, David, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, John,
Benjamin), of whom we list three:
a11. Solomon Squire was born 20 May 1705 in
Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died 26 Jun 1745 in Woodbury. He married Martha Warner, daughter of Ebenezer Warner
(1681-1755) and Martha Galpin (1685-1745). Martha was born 23 Jul 1707 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died
15 Nov 1785. Her sister Margaret marries Solomon's brother David.
Solomon and Martha had six children (Olive, James, Patience, Solomon, Ruth, Martha), two of whom marry into our family:
a113. Patience Squire was born about 1733 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. She married 1 Feb 1761 in New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut, Zenas Ward [7822.6.10], son of William Ward and Lettice Beach. Zenas was born in 1720 and died in 1793. Zenas had several children from his first marriage, one of whom marries a sister of Patience, below.
a115. Ruth Squire was born about 1740 and died 28 Feb 1816 in South Britain (New Haven) Connecticut. She married 23 Apr 1769 in Woodbury, Bethuel Ward [7822.6.10.1], son of Zenas Ward and Mary Bates. Bethuel was born in 1744 and died in 1813. Bethuel's father marries Ruth's sister, above.
a12. David Squire was born Dec 1708 in
Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married 20 Dec 1732 in Connecticut, Margaret Warner (also seen as Marjorie), daughter of
Ebenezer Warner (1681-1755) and Martha Galpin (1685-1745). Margaret was born Dec 1712 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut.
David and Margaret had seven children (Jerusha, Deliverance, David, Gideon, Margaret, Lydia, Elizabeth), of whom we list one:
a127. Elizabeth Squire was born 4 Dec 1749 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died 13 Jan 1834 in Roxbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. She married 8 Jan 1769, Macock Ward [7822.6.10.2], son of Zenas Ward and Mary Bates. Macock was born 6 Nov 1745 in New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 2 Aug 1836 in Roxbury (Litchfield) Connecticut.
a19. Benjamin Squire was
born about 1729 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married about 1751, Abigail ___.
Benjamin and Abigail had five children (Amos, Isaac, Mary, Benjamin, Silas), of whom we list two:
a192. Isaac Squire was born 18 Apr 1756 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married 7 Aug 1777, Content Ward [7822.6.10.7], daughter of Zenas Ward and Mary Bates.
a194. Benjamin Squire was born 1 May 1760 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died in Ohio. He married his cousin Patience Ward [7822.6.10.8], daughter of Zenas Ward and Patience Squire. Patience was born 27 Dec 1761. Benjamin and Patience are first cousins once removed, both descending from Thomas Squire and Hannah Welton, above.
b. Jonathan Squire was born in 1656 in New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut, and died
sometime after 1723 in Westport (Fairfield) Connecticut. He married Mary Seeley, daughter of Nathaniel Seeley and Mary
Turney. Mary was born in 1664 in New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut.
Jonathan and Mary had eight children (Ann, Mary, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Mary, Abigail, Deborah, Seeley), of whom we list two:
b3. Jonathan Squire was born about 1687 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died in
Cornwall (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married in 1711 in Stratfield (Fairfield) Connecticut, Mary Odell. Mary was born
27 Feb 1692/93.
Jonathan and Mary had six children (Jonathan, Zechariah, Reuben, Ichabod, Odell, Ezra), of whom we list one:
b33. Reuben Squire was born about 1717 in
Cornwall (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married May 1738, Hannah Mallory.
Hannah was born about 1720 in Stamford (Fairfield) Connecticut, and died 13 Jan 1761.
Reuben and Hannah had six children (Daniel, Ichabod, Sarah, John, Betty, Ebenezer), of whom we list one:
b332. Ichabod Squire was born 22 Jun 1742. He married Mary Ward [7822.6.10.3], daughter of Zenas Ward and Mary Bates. Mary was born on 26 Oct 1747 in Woodbury (Litchfield) Connecticut.
b6. Abigail Squire was born in 1694 in Fairfield (Fairfield) Connecticut, and died 4 Aug 1777 in Stratfield (Fairfield) Connecticut. She married 10 Jan 1720 in Stratfield, Stephen Hubbell [7826.4.6], son of Samuel Hubbell and Temperance Nichols. Stephen was born 16 Feb 1694/95 in Stratford (Fairfield) Connecticut, and died 20 Apr 1792 in Stratfield (Fairfield) Connecticut.
c. Samuel Squire was born 27 Jan 1651/52 in Fairfield (Fairfield) Connecticut,
and died 8 Nov 1711 in Fairfield. He married Sarah Seeley.
Samuel and Sarah had six children (Samuel, Joseph, John, Sarah, Rebecca, Benjamin), of whom we list one:
c1. Samuel Squire was born about 1693 in Fairfield (Fairfield) Connecticut, and died
27 Jan 1773 in Fairfield. He married Mary Silliman. Mary was born in 1693 and died 26 Jun 1748.
Samuel and Mary had seven children (Samuel, Mary, John, Daniel, Sarah, Rebecca, Seth), of whom we list one:
c14. Daniel Squire was born about 1722 and died 27 Jun 1755 in Greenfield (Fairfield) Connecticut. He married Sep 1746, Abigail Osborn [7826.10.1.5], daughter of Joseph Osborn and Hannah Hubbell.
UNCONNECTED SQUIRES:
Thomas Squire (born about 1755) married 7822.6.10.6 Anna Ward. She is a sister to all the above Wards who marry Squires, so it is highly likely that this Thomas is also a cousin to the above, but we cannot find the connection.
Ada Ione Squier (born 4 May 1846) who married 122.5 John Blatchley in Wisconsin. Squier is supposed to be a variant of Squire.
