| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. 62678. Robert White was born probably around 1560 in England, and died about 1617 in England. He married in England,
62679. Bridget Alger. Bridget was born about 1562 in Essex, England.
White is a very old name, and has several different origins. In some cases it is locational, from towns or old words that have a
similar sound, e.g. wiht = a bend in a river. In some cases it literally means the color white; in this case it may have been a name
applied to the Vikings or Anglo-Saxons who were often blond and had pale skin compared to the native Celts.
Alger is from Anglo-Saxon or Norse. There were actually several similar-sounding names at one time, such as Aelfgar or Ealdgar, which shared
the common root gar = spear. Over the years these were changed to Alger and many variants such as Algar, Elgar, Augar.
Robert and Bridget had five children:
