George Hubbard [Gen 13]

Almost all of our information on this family is from secondary website sources; I am presenting what we have found, but cannot say anything about the accuracy of the information.
7852. George Hubbard was born about 1594 in England, and died 16 Mar 1685/84 in
New Haven (New Haven) Connecticut. He married 1626 in England,
7853. Mary Bishop. Mary was born about 1610 in England, and died 14 Sep 1676
in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
The name Hubbard is supposed to come from a first name such as Hubert, though its origin is uncertain. Some say it is Anglo-Saxon, some say Norman.
George and Mary came to America about 1633. The parents of George are unknown. A few sources try to make him a son of Edmund Hobart and Margaret Dewey, but I believe that is incorrect: Edmund married Margaret in 1600, and the list of their children does not include George. George's birth date is uncertain, I have seen estimates from 1591 to 1597.
George and Mary had ten children:

7852.3. George Hubbard was born in 1632 in England, and died in 1684 in Connecticut.
7852.4. Sarah Hubbard was born in 1635 in Wethersfield (Fairford)
Connecticut, and died in 1675 in Newark (Essex) New Jersey. She married in
1654 Richard Harrison, son of Richard Harrison (1585 Eng - 1653 CT) and Margaret Picke (b. 1598 Eng). Richard was born in 1627
in Cheshire, England, and died in 1686 in Newark (Essex) New Jersey.
Several web sources list children, but there are obvious problems: many of the children were born in England, 10 years before
they were married, and half of them were born before Sarah turned 15. I believe there must be another
Richard Harrison/Sarah combination that is being confused with ours.
7852.5. Hannah Hubbard (1637 CT - 1717 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.
7852.6. Elizabeth Hubbard was born in 1638 in Wethersfield (Fairford) Connecticut, and died in 1710. She married about 1690, John Norton [7820], son of Thomas Norton and Grace Wells. John was born 15 Feb 1638/37 in England, and died 5 Mar 1704/03 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. John is our direct ancestor through his first marriage to Hannah Stone. Elizabeth is about 50 years old at the time of this marriage, so it is probably a second marriage for her also. Some sources have her married previously to Thomas Watts.

7852.1. Mary Hubbard was born about 1627 in England,
and died 13 Apr 1713 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. She married
about 1647 in Connecticut, John Fowler, son of William Fowler (~1600-1660) and Sarah ___. Mary came to America about 1633
with her parents, at age 6. John came to
America in 1637 with his parents, around 12 years old. Mary and John were Congregational, John was a Deacon.

30 Sep 1719 in Guilford. He married 29 Aug 1677 in
Lebanon (New London) Connecticut, Elizabeth Bartlett,
daughter of George Bartlett (~1635 CT - 1699) and Mary
Cruttenden (~1635 Eng - 1669 CT).

7852.1.3.1. Abigail Fowler was born in 1679, and died in 1769. She married 1 Jul 1705, Pelatiah Leete, son of Mary Chittenden and John Leete. Pelatiah was born 26 Mar 1681 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 13 Oct 1768 in Leete's Island.
Abigail and Pelatiah had five children, of whom we list two (third cousins to us):
7852.1.3.1.2. Daniel Leete was born 14 Oct 1709 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died on 1 Oct 1772 in Guilford. He married 14 Jun 1738, his cousin Rhoda Stone [7816.8.3], daughter of Caleb Stone (1685-1765) and Sarah Meigs (1692-1775). Rhoda was born 2 Nov 1719 in Connecticut, and died 23 Dec 1769 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. Daniel and Rhoda are second cousins, both being descended from George Bartlett and Mary Cruttenden.
Daniel and Rhoda had a son (Ambrose), listed under Rhoda.
7852.1.3.1.4. Pelatiah Leete was born 7 Mar 1713 in Leete's Island, Connecticut, and died 28 May 1786 in Leete's Island. He married 26 Mar 1740 in Guilford, his cousin Lydia Cruttenden [7816.7.7], daughter of Mindwell Meigs (1682-1762) and Samuel Cruttenden. Lydia was born 14 Mar 1719/18 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 13 Aug 1772 in Leete's Island, Connecticut. Lydia and Pelatiah are second cousins once removed, both being descended from Abraham Cruttenden and Mary Hinkson.

7852.1.3.2. Mary Fowler was born in 1681, and died in 1717. She married 20 Jan 1709, Samuel Hopson, son of John Hopson and Elizabeth Allen. Samuel was born 10 Jan 1684, and died 27 Dec 1771. After Mary died, Samuel married in 1726, Ann Leete [15624.1.3.1].
7852.1.3.3. Abraham Fowler was born in 1683 in Connecticut, and died 11 Oct 1754 in
Connecticut. He married 4 Mar 1720/19, his second cousin Elizabeth Hubbard
[3926.1.2], daughter of Daniel Hubbard and Elizabeth Cruttenden. Elizabeth was born 31 Jan 1694/93 in
Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 7 Mar 1770 in Guilford. Besides being second
cousins through our Hubbard/Bishop line, they are also second cousins through Cruttenden.
Abraham and Elizabeth had five children, listed under Elizabeth who is closer to the main line.
7852.1.3.4. Ebenezer Fowler was born in 1684, and died in 1768. He married Elizabeth Starr. Elizabeth was born 26 Nov 1695, and died 26 Mar 1765.
7852.1.3.5. Daniel Fowler was born in 1686, and died in 1776. He married Grace Barron. Grace was born in 1690, and died 13 Feb 1783.
7852.1.3.6. Josiah Fowler was born in 1688, and died 7 Sep 1757. He
married Hannah Baldwin, daughter of Jonathan Baldwin and Thankful Strong. Hannah was born in 1696,
and died 10 Dec 1776.

He married 4 Feb 1757, Anna Fowler
[3926.1.2.5], daughter of Abraham Fowler and Elizabeth Hubbard. Anna was born in 1738, and died 9 Mar 1765.
Jonathan and Anna are first cousins through (7852.1.3) Abraham Fowler, and third cousins through Hubbard/Bishop.
7852.1.3.7. Caleb Fowler was born in 1690, and died in 1724.
7852.1.3.8. Elizabeth Fowler was born in 1694, and died in 1794. She
married 11 Sep 1716, Andrew Ward [7822.1.2], son of Andrew Ward (1670 CT - 1756 CT) and Deborah Joy (1674 CT - 1752 CT). Andrew
was born 22 Apr 1695 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 14 Jul 1779. Elizabeth's date of death makes her 99 or 100, could possibly be in error.
Elizabeth and Andrew had seven children, listed under Andrew who is closer to
the main line.
7852.1.4. John Fowler was born in 1654 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died Dec 1735. He married in 1681, Ann Johnson. Ann was born in 1652, and died in 1702.

7852.1.4.4. Samuel Fowler was born in 1687, and died 22 Nov 1751. He married Anna Buck, daughter of David Buck. Anna was born on 25 Apr 1693, and died 29 Jan 1764. Anna's sister Elizabeth marries Samuel's brother Joseph.
7852.1.4.5. Joseph Fowler was born in 1689, and died 8 Dec 1769. He married Elizabeth Buck, daughter of David Buck, and sister of Anna who married Joseph's brother Samuel. Elizabeth was born 16 Feb 1691, and died 28 Feb 1778.
7852.1.4.6. Benjamin Fowler was born in 1693, and died 18 Nov 1780.
He married 10 Nov 1719, Andrea Morgan, daughter of John Morgan and Elizabeth Jones. Andrea was born
19 Apr 1697, and died 5 Apr 1775.

She married 17 Apr 1755 in Guilford, David Bishop [7810.2.4.3], son of David Bishop and Deborah Seward. David was born 20 Sep 1728 in Guilford. David and Andrea are third cousins once removed, both descending from John Bishop and Anne Stevens.

died Feb 1702 in Hatfield, Connecticut. He married 1650, Mary Merriam.
Mary was born in 1632 in Wethersfield (Fairford) Connecticut (some have England), and died 8 Mar 1722/21 in
Connecticut. Her name is uncertain. Some sources have Mary Merriam, some Mary Merriman, some Mary Sheafe,
and some Mary Sheafe Merriam. Sheafe could be her middle name, or perhaps she was married once before her marriage to John.

7852.2.2.2. Isaac Hubbard was born in 1679 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut, and died in 1725 in Tolland, Connecticut. He married Hannah Dickinson.
7852.2.2.3. Sarah Hubbard was born in 1683 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut. She married Abraham Hollister, son of John Hollister. Abraham was born 5 May 1705 in Wethersfield (Hartford) Connecticut.
7852.2.2.4. David Hubbard was born about 1685 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 13 Oct 1760 in Glastonbury. He married about 1721, Prudence Goodrich, daughter of David Goodrich and Prudence Churchill. Prudence was born 18 Aug 1701 in Wethersfield (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 29 Nov 1783 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut.
7852.2.2.5. Ephraim Hubbard was born in 1695 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 14 Sep 1780 in Glastonbury. He married Mary Lord, daughter of Richard Lord and Abigail Webber. Mary was born 20 Feb 1697 in Hartford (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 8 Mar 1772 in Glastonbury. Some have her as Mary Miller; this may be a second marriage for her? or Ephraim married twice? or just an error.
7852.2.3. Hannah Hubbard was born 5 Dec 1656 in Wethersfield (Fairford) Connecticut, and died in 1662 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, age 6.
7852.2.4. Jonathan Hubbard was born 3 Jan 1659/58 in Wethersfield (Fairford)
Connecticut, and died 17 Jul 1728. He married 15 Mar 1681/80, Hannah Rice, daughter of
Samuel Rice (~1630-) and Elizabeth King. Hannah was born in 1658 in Sudbury, Massachusetts, and died 9 Apr 1747
in Concord, Massachusetts. Her sister Esther marries Jonathan's brother Daniel.

7852.2.4.4. Samuel Hubbard was born 27 Apr 1687, and died 12 Dec 1753. He married in 1709, Sarah Clark.
7852.2.4.5. Joseph Hubbard was born 8 Feb 1689/88, and died 10 Apr 1768. He married in 1713, Rebecca Bulkley, daughter of Joseph Bulkley and Rebecca Minot. Rebecca was born in 1696 in Massachusetts, and died in 1772 in Massachusetts.
7852.2.4.6. Elizabeth Hubbard was born 16 Jun 1691, and died 25 Dec 1757.
7852.2.4.7. John Hubbard was born 12 Mar 1693/92, and died 4 Aug 1761. He married twice, to Hannah Blood and to Azubah Moore. Order and dates are unknown.
7852.2.4.8. Daniel Hubbard was born 20 Nov 1694, and died 28 Apr 1784. He married Dorothy Dakin, daughter of Joseph Dakin. Dorothy was born in 1698 in Massachusetts, and died in 1769 in Massachusetts.
7852.2.4.9. Thomas Hubbard was born 27 Aug 1696, and died 1 Feb 1728/27. He married Mary Fletcher, daughter of Joseph Fletcher (1661-1744) and Mary Dudley (1667-1705). Mary was born in 1695. Her brother Samuel marries Thomas' sister Abigail. There is no obvious connection between her mother and our Dudley line.
7852.2.4.10. Abigail Hubbard was born 27 Aug 1696. She married Samuel Fletcher, son of Joseph Fletcher and Mary Dudley, and brother of Mary who marries Abigail's brother Thomas. Samuel was born in 1692.
7852.2.4.11. Ebenezer Hubbard was born 28 Dec 1700, and died 21 May 1755. He married Mary Conant, daughter of Roger Conant and Mary Rayment.
7852.2.5. Daniel Hubbard was born 9 Mar 1661/60 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, and died 12 Feb 1744/43 in Hadley. He married in 1684 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, Esther Rice, daughter of Samuel Rice and Elizabeth King. Esther was born in 1665 in Massachusetts, and died in 1737 in Hadley. Her sister Hannah marries Daniel's brother Jonathan.

7852.2.6. Mercy Hubbard was born 23 Feb 1664/63 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts. She married 22 Oct 1685 in Wethersfield (Hartford) Connecticut, Jonathan Boardman. Jonathan was born 4 Feb 1660/59 in Wethersfield (Hartford) Connecticut, and died 21 Sep 1712 in Wethersfield.

John was born 19 May 1679 in Wethersfield, and died 8 Mar 1714/13 in Wethersfield. Two of John's siblings also married into our family.
7852.2.7. Isaac Hubbard was born 16 Jan 1667/66 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, and died 7 Aug 1750 in Massachusetts. He married in 1692 Anna Warner, daughter of Daniel Warner and Esther Gernor. Anna was born 17 Nov 1669 in Hadley, and died 26 Jun 1750 in Sunderland, Massachusetts.

7852.2.7.6. Jonathan Hubbard was born 29 Dec 1703 in Sunderland (Franklin) Massachusetts, and died 6 Jul 1765 in Sheffield (Berkshire) Massachusetts. He married in 1740, Rachel Ely. Rachel was born 11 Nov 1716 in W. Springfield (Hampden) Massachusetts.
7852.2.7.7. Joseph Hubbard was born 8 Apr 1708 in Sunderland (Franklin) Massachusetts, and died in 1783 in Leverett (Franklin) Massachusetts. He married in 1737, Joanna Porter. Joanna was born in 1716 in Massachusetts.
7852.2.7.8. David Hubbard was born 9 Mar 1711 in Sunderland (Franklin) Massachusetts, and died in 1787 in Sunderland.
7852.2.8. Mary Hubbard was born 10 Apr 1669 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, and died 12 Mar 1754. She married 12 Dec 1688, Daniel Warner.
7852.2.9. Sarah Hubbard was born 12 Nov 1672 in Hadley (Hampshire) Massachusetts, and died 5 Oct 1752. She married in 1698 Samuel Cowles, son of John Cowles and Deborah Bartlett. Samuel was born 27 May 1673 in Hatfield (Hampshire) Massachusetts, and died 16 Aug 1750 in Hatfield.

She married in 1662, Jacob Melyen, son of Cornelius Melyen (1600 Belg-1674) and Jannetje Andriens van Myert (~1600 Neth). Jacob was born 17 Apr 1640 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and died in 1706, probably in Massachusetts. He was a leather merchant.

She married 14 Oct 1657, Humphrey Spinning, son of Humphrey Spinning and Elizabeth Long. Humphrey was born in 1630 in England, and died in Elizabethtown (Morris) New Jersey.
Abigail and Humphrey had five children (first cousins to us):
7852.7.1. John Spinning was born in 1659, and died in 1712. He married first, 16 Mar 1687/86, Deborah Bartlett, daughter of George Bartlett and Mary Cruttenden. Deborah was born about 1660, and died 4 Dec 1692 in Newark (Essex) New Jersey. We don't know of any children from this first marriage.
John married second, 20 Aug 1694, Rachel Savage, daughter of John Savage and Elizabeth D'Aubin. Rachel was born 1673, and died in 1752.

Connecticut, and died Nov 1702. He married first, 1660 in Connecticut, Catherine ___. Catherine was born
about 1642 and died about 1665 in Connecticut. We don't know of any children from this marriage.
