| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. 7696. William Brooks was born in 1615 in England, and died in Massachusetts. He married twice. His first wife, our ancestor, is unknown. She was at one time thought to be Susannah, widow of ___ Dunham, but this supposedly has been disproved (I haven’t seen any of the evidence used to prove this negative, but I have neverthless dropped Susannah). William married second, Susannah Hanford. There are no known children from the second marriage.
The name Brooks is supposed to be derived from a stream. There are many independent origins all over England, and therefore many unrelated Brooks lines.
William came to America in 1635 on the “Blessing”. He apparently married in Massachusetts at around age 30, wife unknown
William and ___ had eight children:
7696.1. Hannah Brooks was born about 1645 probably in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts, baptized 14 Sep 1645 in the 2nd Church of Scituate.
7696.2. Nathaniel Brooks [3848] (1646 MA - 1717 MA) and Elizabeth Curtis are direct ancestors, separate page.
7696.3. Mary Brooks was born about 1647 probably in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts, baptized 28 Nov 1647 in the 2nd Church of Scituate.
7696.4. Sarah Brooks was born about 1650 probably in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts, baptized 26 May 1650 in the 2nd Church of Scituate. Some have her married to Joseph Studley, but others dispute this.
7696.5. Meriam Brooks was born about 1652 probably in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts,
baptized 6 Jun 1652 in the 2nd Church of Scituate. She married 4 Apr 1678,
John Curtis [7698.3], son of Richard Curtis and Ann Hallett.
Meriam and John had three children, listed under John.
7696.6. Deborah Brooks was born about 1654 in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts. She
married Robert Stetson Jr. Robert was born Jan 1654 in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died sometime after 1737.
Deborah and Robert had eight children (first cousins to us):
7696.6.1. Isaac Stetson was born about 1677, and died sometime after 1760. He married Elizabeth Pray.
7696.6.2. Timothy Stetson was born about 1679, and died about 1759.
7696.6.3. Resolved Stetson was born about 1681, and died about 1749.
7696.6.4. Sarah Stetson was born about 1683, and died in 1748.
7696.6.5. Nathaniel Stetson was born about 1685, and died in 1713.
7696.6.6. Peleg Stetson was born about 1687, and died in 1713.
7696.6.7. Amie Stetson was born about 1692.
7696.6.8. Bathsheba Stetson was born about 1696, and died in 1763.
7696.7. Thomas Brooks was born about 1657 in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts. He married in 1687, Hannah Bisbee.
7696.8. Joanna Brooks was born about 1659 in Scituate (Plymouth) Massachusetts.
