These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. George Aldrich and Katherine Seald

7424 (also 7690). George Aldrich {wa}, also seen as George Aldridge, was born 1605 in Derbyshire, England (some have Hertfordshire: {wa}), and died 1 Mar 1682/83 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. He is a son of George Aldrich [14848] and Joan Thurgood [14849]. George married 3 Sep 1629 in Derbyshire, England,

7425 (also 7691). Katherine Seald {wa}. Katherine (also seen as Catherine Seald) was born about 1610 in Derbyshire, England, and died 11 Jan 1691/92 (some have 1690/91) in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts.

George and Katherine came to Dorchester (Suffolk) Massachusetts in 1631. They were members of the Dorchester Congregational church. They moved to Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts in 1640, and to Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts in 1663. They were among the first seven settlers in Mendon.

George was a tailor. In his will, he left 12 pence to each of his daughters; his clothes to his son Joseph; and the rest of his estate to his wife. As he was a tailor, “clothes” possibly means the whole business, not just his own clothes.

This is a double line, as two children (Mercy and Jacob) are direct ancestors to us. George could be numbered either 7424 or 7690; we use 7424 as the primary reference number, as this line continues the Aldrich name furthest.

7424.3. Mary Aldrich {wa} was born 16 Jun 1637 in Dorchester (Suffolk) Massachusetts, and died sometime after 1683 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts.

7424.4. Miriam Aldrich {wa} was born 20 Jun 1639 in Dorchester (Suffolk) Massachusetts, and died at seven months, 27 Jan 1640 in Dorchester. Source {wa} has her born 29 Jun 1639, and died 10 Mar 1651/52.

7424.5. Experience Aldrich {wa} was born 4 Sep 1641 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died at five months, 2 Feb 1641/42 in Braintree.

7424.2. Joseph Aldrich {wa} (also seen as Joseph Aldridge) was born 4 Jun 1635 in Dorchester (Suffolk) Massachusetts, and died 24 Apr 1701 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married 26 Feb 1661/62 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, Patience Osborne, daughter of John Osborne (1686 MA) and Mary Knight. Patience was born 1642 (some have 1635: {wa}) in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died in 1705 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. They were Congregational. They moved to Rhode Island about 1668.

He married in 1681, Jane Puffer, daughter of James Puffer and Mary Ludden. Jane was born Oct 1664 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 17 Dec 1749 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island. Samuel was a leather tanner.

7424.2.1.2. Peter Aldrich was born 1683 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 22 May 1762 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married Priscilla Kinney.

7424.2.1.3. James Aldrich was born 1685 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 15 Jul 1744. James married first, Mary Mowry. He married second, Martha Jencks.

7424.2.1.4. Mary Aldrich was born 1687 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts. She married 8 Dec 1717 in Massachusetts, her first cousin once removed, Samuel Bartlett [7424.7.3], son of Sarah Aldrich. This was Samuel’s second marriage; they had no children.

7424.2.1.5. Richard Aldrich was born 1689 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died in 1760. He married about 1710, Susannah Mowry.

7424.2.4.3. David Aldrich was born 1703 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island. David married first, Mehitabel Mann. He married second, Sarah Sprague; Sarah was the widow of David’s cousin John Whitman [7424.7.2.2].

7424.2.4.4. Jonathan Aldrich was born 1705 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island, and died in 1791. Jonathan married first, Abigail Walker. He married second, Eunice Peck.

7424.2.4.5. Aaron Aldrich was born 1706 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 7 Nov 1769 in Scituate. He married Abiah Burgess.

7424.2.4.6. Richard Aldrich was born 1707 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 30 Dec 1755.

7424.2.4.7. Noah Aldrich was born 3 Dec 1709 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 28 Aug 1808 in Adams (Berkshire) Massachusetts. He married Tabitha Inman.

7424.2.6. Sarah Aldrich {wa} was born 27 Oct 1677 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island ({wa} has her born 29 Aug 1677 in Braintree (Essex) Massachusetts).

7424.2.7. Mercy Aldrich {wa} was born in 1681 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died about 1725. She married Joseph Hide. Joseph was born 1681 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died Apr 1725 in Providence.

7424.6. John Aldrich {wa} (also seen as John Aldridge) was born 2 Apr 1644 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 2 Apr 1685 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. He married twice:
John married first, 9 Jun 1670 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, Sarah Thompson, daughter of John Thompson and Sarah Hayward. Sarah was born 1646 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 25 Feb 1677/78 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. They were Congregational.

7424.6.3.1. Timothy Aldrich was born 8 Jan 1723 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died sometime before 1763. His place of death is listed by some as Voluntown, Massachusetts -- I can’t find any such place; there is a Voluntown in Connecticut. He married Mary ___.

John married second, 31 Oct 1678 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts, Sarah Leach, daughter of Giles Leach (1632 MA) and Ann Nokes. Sarah was born 13 Nov 1657 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. They were Congregational.
John and Sarah L. had five children (first cousins to us):

7424.6.4. Peter Aldrich was born about 1679 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died 1724 in Norton (Bristol) Massachusetts. He married Dec 1701 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, Experience Cook, daughter of Samuel Cook and Lydia ___. Experience was born 5 Jul 1682 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 1770 in Norton (Bristol) Massachusetts. They were Congregational, and were members of the First Church of Norton. Experience is descended from Mayflower immigrant Francis Cooke.

7424.6.5. Josiah Aldrich was born about 1680 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. He married about 1715 in Bridgewater, Mary Elizabeth Badcock. Mary was born 1685 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. Josiah was a wheelwright. They were Congregational.

7424.6.7. Benjamin Aldridge was born about 1684 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died 1763 in Westmoreland (Cheshire) New Hampshire. He married Mary Shaw. Benjamin used the Aldridge spelling. They were Congregational.

7424.6.7.10. Sarah Aldridge was born 24 Mar 1749 in Walpole (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

7424.7. Sarah Aldrich {wa} (also seen as Sarah Aldridge) was born 16 Jan 1645/46 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 17 Feb 1685 in Rehoboth (Bristol) Massachusetts. She married 1665 in Braintree, John Bartlett, the son of Richard Bartlett. John was born about 1644 in Massachusetts, and died 17 Aug 1684 in Rehoboth (Bristol) Massachusetts. They were Congregational.

7424.7.1.3. Job Bartlett was born about 1692. He married his first cousin, Mary Bartlett [7424.7.8.2], the daughter of Daniel Bartlett.

7424.7.1.5. Susannah Bartlett was born about 1695. She may have married Francis Inman. (There is confusion between sources, some have Francis married to 7424.6.5.2 Susanna Bartlett. We don’t know which one is correct.)

7424.7.2. Sarah Bartlett {wa} was born 1668 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 27 Aug 1750 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island. She married 12 Dec 1694 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, Valentine Bartlett Whitman, son of Valentine Bartlett Whitman and Mary ___. Valentine was born 25 Aug 1668 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 26 Aug 1750 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island. Valentine could be a cousin to Sarah through the Bartletts, but the relation is unknown. It is possible that he is also a cousin to us through the Whitmans, but the relationship, if any, is unknown.

7424.7.2.1. Sarah Whitman was born 26 Jan 1696/97 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 29 Oct 1749 in Rhode Island. She married Joseph Williams.

7424.7.2.2. John Whitman was born 2 Feb 1698/99 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 8 Jul 1741 in Rhode Island. He married Sarah Sprague. After John died, Sarah married his cousin David Aldrich [7424.2.4.3].

7424.7.2.3. Henry Whitman was born 16 Jan 1700/01 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married Ruth Sprague.

7424.7.2.4. Abigail Whitman was born 4 Jan 1708/09 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. She married Joseph Brown.

7424.7.2.5. Robert Whitman was born 2 May 1712 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died in 1794.

7424.7.2.6. Benjamin Whitman was born 22 Jul 1715 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island.

7424.7.2.7. Noah Whitman was born 1716 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 1717 in Providence, age 1.

7424.7.2.8. Noah Whitman was born 31 Dec 1717 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married Sarah Brown.

7424.7.2.9. Thomas Whitman was born 1719 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married Mary Lyon.

7424.7.2.10. Ebenezer Whitman was born 1721 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. He married Rebeckah Paine.

7424.7.3. Samuel Bartlett {wa} was born 28 Mar 1670 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 1743 in Attleboro (Bristol) Massachusetts. He married first, 19 Dec 1695 in Massachusetts, Mary Inman. Mary was born Jun 1674, and died 1716 in Massachusetts.
Samuel and Mary had four children (second cousins to us):

Samuel married second, 8 Dec 1717 in Massachusetts his first cousin once removed, Mary Aldrich [7424.2.1.4], daughter of Samuel Aldrich. There were no children from this marriage.

7424.7.4. Moses Bartlett {wa} was born 1672 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 15 Jan 1753 in Gloucester (Providence) Rhode Island. He married 5 Mar 1695/96 in Providence (Providence) Rhode Island, Deborah Garner, the daughter of Stephen Garner. Deborah was born 1660 in Swansea (Bristol) Massachusetts.

7424.7.5. Jacob Bartlett {wa} was born 1676 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 1 Dec 1741 in Rhode Island. He married about 1694, Sarah ___, the widow of ___ Albee.
Jacob and Sarah had five children (second cousins to us):

7424.7.5.1. Damaris Bartlett was born about 1695 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, and died about 1740. She married Obadiah Ballou.

7424.7.5.2. Susanna Bartlett was born about 1697 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island. One source has Susanna married to Francis Inman, but he is also shown as married to 7424.7.1.5 Susannah Bartlett. The Susans were probably confused somewhere, and only one is correct. I placed him with the above 7424.7.1.5 Susannah, but we don’t know which one is correct.

7424.7.5.3. Jacob Bartlett was born about 1699 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, and died 17 Apr 1768 in Cumberland, Rhode Island. He married Lydia Mussey.

7424.7.5.4. Joseph Bartlett was born about 1704 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, and died 1 Dec 1791. He married his second cousin once removed, Abigail Aldrich [7424.2.1.5.1], daughter of Richard Aldrich.

7424.7.5.5. Abner Bartlett was born in 1705 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, and died 13 Dec 1784. He married Abigail Arnold.

7424.7.6. Mary Bartlett {wa} was born 1 Jan 1679/80 (some have 1678/79: {wa}) in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts.

7424.7.7. Noah Bartlett was born 29 Jan 1680/81 (some have 1679/80: {wa}) in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts.

7424.7.8. Daniel Bartlett was born 24 Jan 1684/85 (some have 1683/84: {wa}) in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 29 Jan 1762. He married first, about 1712, Mary ___. Mary died sometime before 1749. Daniel married second, 25 Sep 1749, Abigail Tucker. There were no children from this marriage.
Daniel and Mary had three children (second cousins to us):

7424.7.8.1. Johanna Bartlett was born 18 Mar 1713 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. She married her second cousin, Jacob Aldrich [3712.3.6], son of Seth Aldrich.
Johanna and Jacob had fifteen children, both second and third cousin to us. They are listed under Jacob, who is closer to the main line.

7424.7.8.2. Mary Bartlett was born 8 Mar 1715 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. She married her first cousin Job Bartlett [7424.7.1.3], son of John Bartlett.

7424.7.8.3. Sarah Bartlett was born about 1717 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts.

7424.8. Peter Aldrich {wa} (also seen as Peter Aldridge) was born 14 Apr 1648 (some have 4 Apr: {wa}) in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 20 May 1692 in Shelter Island (Suffolk) New York. He married 1682 in Mattituck (Suffolk) New York, Mehitabel Swazey (also seen as Mehitable Swasey), daughter of John Swazey. Mehitabel was born 1648 in Mattituck (Suffolk) New York (source {wa} has 1657 in Southold (Livingston [incorrect, should be Suffolk]) New York), and died about 1692. Her place of death is given {wa} as Suffolk (Livingston) New York, no such place -- should probably be Suffolk County. They were Congregational.

7424.12. Martha Aldrich {wa} was born 7 Jul 1656 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts. She married 4 Jul 1679 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, John Dunbar, the son of Robert Dunbar and Rose ___. John was born 1 Dec 1657 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died in 1733.

7424.12.3. John Dunbar was born about 1687 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died 13 May 1746 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut. He married 14 Jun 1716 in Wallingford, Elizabeth Fenn. Elizabeth was born 29 Apr 1692 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 2 Nov 1751 in Wallingford.
John and Elizabeth had seven children (second cousins to us):

7424.12.3.3. Edward Dunbar was born 7 Apr 1722 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 23 Jan 1790. He married Hannah Curtis.

7424.12.3.4. John Dunbar was born 28 Sep 1724 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 4 Oct 1786 in Watertown (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married Temperance Hall.

7424.12.3.5. Samuel Dunbar was born 18 Dec 1726 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut. He married Lois Holt.

7424.12.3.6. Elizabeth Dunbar was born 5 May 1729 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut. She married ___ Andrews.

7424.12.3.7. Hannah Dunbar was born 20 Apr 1733 in Wallingford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 21 Sep 1774. She married in 1753, Moses Blakeslee. Moses was born in 1733.

7424.12.4. Sarah Dunbar was born about 1689 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died 25 Apr 1764.

7424.12.5. Isaac Dunbar was born about 1690 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts. He married 16 Sep 1721, Mary Sumner.

7424.12.6. Jeremiah Dunbar was born about 1692 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died sometime after 1715.

7424.12.7. Lydia Dunbar was born 3 Aug 1695 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died 13 Apr 1742 in Massachusetts.
