Samuel Wilcoxson and Ruth Westcott

3934. Samuel Wilcoxson (also seen as Samuel Wilcox, Samuel Wilcoxen, Samuel Wilcockson) was born 15 Mar 1663/64 in Stratford (Fairfield) Connecticut, and died about 1748 (some have 1713) in Connecticut. He is a son of Joseph Wilcoxson [7868] and Margaret Anna Sheather [7869]. Samuel married first, 1 Jan 1695/96 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut,

3935. Ruth E. Westcott. Ruth (also seen as Ruth Wescott) was born in 1667 or 1676 in Portsmouth (Newport) Rhode Island, and died 16 Jan 1728/29 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. I have seen both 1667 and 1676 for her birth, it seems obvious that one of them is a simple transcription error, but we don’t know which choice is correct. She is a daughter of Robert Westcott [7870] and Catherine Rathburn 7871.

3934.6. Lois Wilcoxson was born 3 May 1708 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 3 Dec 1736 in Killingworth. She married 18 May 1732 in Killingworth, Ebenezer Hull [3918.8], son of Thomas Hull (1665-1720) and Hannah Sheather (1666-1714). Ebenezer was born 10 Dec 1705 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
Lois and Ebenezer had three children, listed under Ebenezer.

3934.8. Mary Wilcoxson was born about 1713 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died sometime before 1720 in Killingworth.

3934.9. Jeremiah Wilcoxson was born 11 Feb 1715/16 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married in 1741 in Killingworth, Rebecca ___.
Jeremiah and Rebecca had one child that we know of, there may be others (first cousin to us):

3934.1. Samuel Wilcoxson was born 8 Nov 1696 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 24 Jun 1746 in Killingworth. He married 8 Nov 1720 in Killingworth, Mary Stevens. Mary was born in 1696 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 24 Apr 1740 in Killingworth.

3934.1.2. Samuel Wilcoxson was born 25 Jan 1722/23 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.1.3. Giles Wilcoxson was born 23 Nov 1727 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 27 Dec 1760 in Killingworth. He married 3 Aug 1749, Lydia Ward [7822.5.2.2], daughter of Ira Ward (1704-1743) and Lydia Parmelee (1707- ). Lydia was born 7 Sep 1727 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 31 Jan 1771.
A few sources have Giles’ death as 1783, and give him Revolutionary War service. This conflicts with most sources, which have Lydia married again in 1764 to Richard Redfield [1964.3]. There is probably some confusion of this Giles with his son of the same name.
Giles and Lydia had five children (both second and third cousins to us):

3934.1.3.1. Samuel Wilcox was born 19 Aug 1752 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 13 Jan 1795 in Rutland (Rutland) Vermont. He married about 1780, Sarah Brown.

3934.1.3.2. James Wilcox was born 23 Jul 1754 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 14 Feb 1840 in Addison Co, Vermont. He married on 9 Mar 1777, Eunice Vickery. Eunice was born 16 Apr 1760, and died 10 Aug 1857.
James served in the Revolutionary War, and was in the Battle of Hubbardton (July 1777 in what was then New Hampshire, now Vermont).

3934.1.3.3. Giles Wilcoxson was born 23 Aug 1756 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. It may be this Giles who served in the Revolutionary War and who died in 1783.

3934.1.3.4. Abner Wilcoxson was born 25 Sep 1758 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.1.3.5. Philemon Wilcoxson was born 20 Sep 1760 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.1.4. Mary Wilcoxson was born 4 Feb 1731/33 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married Abraham Hand.

3934.2. Dinah Wilcoxson was born 7 Nov 1697 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 15 Jan 1722/23, Samuel Harris [31266.1.3.5.1], son of Samuel Harris (1665-) and Elizabeth Gipson. Samuel was born 3 Mar 1696/97 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

He married 3 Feb 1728 in Killingworth, Ruth Blanchard, daughter of Thomas Blanchard and Ruth Adams. Ruth was born 1 Apr 1703 in Dunstable (Middlesex) Connecticut.

William Wilcoxson was born 11 Jun 1730 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 9 Jul 1808 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut (some have 6 Nov for his birth date, that may be baptism?). He married 2 Sep 1756 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, Martha Stannard (also seen listed as Martha Standard, or Margaret Stannard).

3934.4.3. John Wilcoxson was born 15 Apr 1732 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 25 May 1826 in East Bloomfield (Ontario) New York. He married 27 Aug 1759 in Killingworth, Anne Stevens [15648.3.1.2.2.1], daughter of James Stevens (1706-1792) and Hannah Hurd (1709- ). Anne was born on 6 Jun 1734 in Connecticut, and died in 1821. They were members of the Haddam Congregational Church. John is said to have served in the Revolutionary War in Col James Wadsworth’s Regiment.
John and Anne had nine children (both second and fifth cousins to us):

3934.4.3.1. Ebenezer Wilcoxson was born 5 Jun 1760 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died probably in the late 1770’s. Ebenezer served in the Revolutionary War, and died in the War.

3934.4.3.2. John Wilcoxson was born 12 Jan 1762 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 10 Nov 1848 in Charleston (Montgomery) New York. He married 26 Feb 1784 in Haddam, Lois Augur, daughter of Isaac Augur and Eunice Tyler. Lois was born 18 Feb 1758 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 29 Apr 1851 in Charleston (Montgomery) New York.

3934.4.3.3. James Wilcoxson was born 12 Feb 1764 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 13 Jan 1838 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Augur.

3934.4.3.4. William Wilcoxson was born 18 Feb 1766 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.4.3.5. Anna Wilcoxson was born 17 Mar 1768 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married Hubbard Smith.

3934.4.3.6. David Wilcoxson was born 18 Jan 1770 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married Huldah Porter.

3934.4.3.7. Levi Wilcoxson was born 11 Dec 1771 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married Mary Spencer.

3934.4.3.8. Amy Wilcoxson was born 28 Feb 1774 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.4.3.9. Dinah Wilcoxson was born 14 Mar 1776 in Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 6 Dec 1817.

3934.4.4. Elnathan Wilcoxson was born 11 Feb 1733/34 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married 17 Jun 1761, Thankful Bennett. Some have a previous marriage to Hannah Adams, with no known children.

3934.4.6. Ruth Wilcoxson was born 5 Feb 1740/41 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 16 Feb 1767, Thomas Pratt, son of Thomas Pratt and Jerusha Beckwith. Thomas was born in 1740 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 3 Mar 1818 in Saybrook.
Ruth and Thomas had four children (second cousins to us):

She married on 6 Feb 1791 in Chester (Middlesex) Connecticut, John Clark [3930.5.1.1.1], son of Reuben Clark and Elizabeth Truby. John (also seen as John Clarke) was born on 8 Sep 1766 and died 8 Jul 1835.

3934.4.6.2. Andrew Pratt was born 21 Nov 1767 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 15 Nov 1819 in Winchester (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married Sally Miller.

3934.4.6.3. Thomas Pratt was born 31 Mar 1769 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married 17 Nov 1804, Alinda Post.

3934.4.6.4. Ruth Pratt was born 1 Dec 1770 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died in Dec 1802 in New York. She married 22 Nov 1793, Israel Douglas. Israel was born 17 Aug 1769 in Chester (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 22 Mar 1855 in Leyden (Lewis) New York.

3934.4.7. Lydia Wilcoxson was born 7 Sep 1743 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 22 Apr 1807. She married 17 Dec 1761 in Old Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, Gideon Kirtland.
Lydia and Gideon had five children (second cousins to us):

3934.4.8. Dinah Wilcoxson was born 12 Apr 1747 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 29 Dec 1768, Daniel Gladding.

3934.4.9. Lois Wilcoxson was born probably in the 1740’s in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 22 May 1760 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, Edmund Shipman.

3934.5. Josiah Wilcoxson was born 4 Apr 1706 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 3 Dec 1766 in Dutchess Co, New York. He married on 3 Mar 1731 in Killingworth, Keziah Kelsey [15670.6.4.4], daughter of Joseph Kelsey (1673-1740) and Hannah Hayden (1680-1736). Keziah was born on 8 Mar 1704 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died in Dutchess Co, New York. Josiah is seen mostly as Josiah Wilcox after 1732. They moved to Dutchess County, New York sometime in the 1750’s.
Josiah and Keziah had seven children (both first and third cousin to us):

3934.5.1. Eliab Wilcox was born 23 Feb 1732 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 20 Jan 1810 in Dover (Dutchess) New York. He married in 1757 in Killingworth, Jerusha Spencer. Jerusha was born in 1735 in Connecticut, and died in 1818 in New York.
Eliab and Jerusha had seven children (second cousins to us):

3934.5.2. Anna Wilcox (also seen as Hannah Wilcoxson) was born 23 Apr 1735 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 30 Oct 1835 in North East (Dutchess) New York. (I am a tiny bit suspicious of the death date, which has her living to the unusual age of 100; that, together with her being seen in places as Hannah Wilcoxson, raises the possibility of two people being merged into one - although she did have two brothers who made it to about 90.) Anna married in 1753 in Suffolk Co, Long Island New York, Benjamin Halstead, son of Samuel Halstead and N. N. ___. Benjamin was born in 1732 in Hampstead (Nassau) New York, and died in 1762 in Fishkill (Dutchess) New York. His sister marries Anna’s brother below.
Anna and Benjamin had four children (second cousins to us):

3934.5.2.1. Jemima Halstead was born in 1754 in Suffolk Co, Long Island New York. She married Gideon Close.

3934.5.2.2. Josiah Halstead was born in 1756 in Suffolk Co, Long Island New York, and died in 1835 in North East (Dutchess) New York. He married Elizabeth Young.

3934.5.2.3. Benjamin Halstead was born in 1758 in Suffolk Co, Long Island New York, and died 5 Mar 1791 in Fishkill (Dutchess) New York.

3934.5.2.4. John Halstead was born in 1760 in Suffolk Co, Long Island New York, and died in 1790 in Fishkill (Dutchess) New York.

3934.5.3. Roswell Wilcox was born 31 Dec 1736 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 23 May 1819 in Amenia (Dutchess) New York. He married in 1763 in Amenia, Jemimah Halstead, daughter of Samuel Halstead and N. N. ___. Jemimah was born in 1743 in Hampstead (Nassau) New York, and died in 1773 in Amenia (Dutchess) New York. Jemima’s brother Benjamin marries Roswell’s sister Anna above.
Roswell is called Lieutenant, we don’t know where the title derives from -- possibly French and Indian War or Revolutionary War.
Roswell and Jemimah probably had several children, but we only know of one (second cousin to us):

3934.5.3.1. Anna Wilcox was born probably sometime around 1765 probably in New York, and died 14 Jul 1801 in Dutchess Co, New York.

3934.5.4. Josiah Wilcox was born 14 May 1739 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 18 Jan 1832 in Amenia (Dutchess) New York. He married in 1770 in Amenia, Anna Hopkins. Anna was born in 1749 in New York.

3934.5.5. Keziah Wilcox was born 3 Jun 1742 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 27 May 1771 in New York, New York, James Hall. James was born in 1740 in New York.

3934.5.6. Elizabeth Wilcox was born 26 Jan 1745 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 15 May 1818 in Stanfordville (Dutchess) New York. She married 21 Dec 1769 in Fishkill (Dutchess) New York, George Brinkerhoff. George was born in 1743 in New York, and died in 1812 in New York.

3934.5.7. Abner Wilcox was born 10 Jul 1748 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 20 Jan 1837 in Conesus (Livingston) New York. He married in 1775 in Amenia (Dutchess) New York, Deborah ___. Deborah was born in 1752 in New York.

3934.7. Ruth Wilcoxson (also seen as Ruth Wilcox) was born 9 Jun 1711 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 29 Apr 1741 in Killingworth, Benjamin Kelsey [15670.6.8.3], son of Stephen Kelsey (1682-1728) and Concurrence Hayden (1685-1753). Benjamin was born on 20 Jan 1710/11 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 15 Dec 1752 in Killingworth.
Ruth and Benjamin had six children (both first and third cousin to us):

3934.7.1. Absalom Kelsey was born 16 Apr 1742 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire. He married on 11 Oct 1770, Mercy Hill [15666.1.6.3.3], daughter of James Hill (1712-1798) and Hannah Nettleton (1724-1821). Mercy was born 26 Feb 1747/48 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. They were Congregational, and were married by Rev. William Seward in the Second Church of Killingworth.
Absalom served in French and Indian War, and in the Revolutionary War.
Absalom and Mercy had five children (both second and fourth cousins to us):

3934.7.1.1. Wealthy Kelsey was born 22 Nov 1772 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 15 Mar 1798 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, her cousin Jesse Wilcoxson [3912.6.5.4], son of Jesse Wilcoxson (1744-1823) and Thankful Stevens (1746-1827). Jesse was born on 14 Sep 1771 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died 27 Feb 1811 in Newport.
Wealthy and Jesse are double third cousins, through 7868 Joseph Wilcoxson and Margaret Sheather, and through 15670.6 John Kelsey and Hannah Disborough. They are also fourth cousins once removed, both descending from 15668 Josiah Hull and Elizabeth Loomis.
They had five children, named Wilcox.

3934.7.1.2. Benjamin Kelsey was born about 1777 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.7.1.3. Nancy Kelsey was born in 1780 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.7.1.5. Polly Kelsey was born about 1792 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3934.7.2. Roswell Kelsey was born 13 Mar 1743/44 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 20 Sep 1813 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire. He married 18 Jul 1771, Hepsibah Bellows. Hepsibah was born in 1753 and died 20 Jul 1810 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.
Roswell served in French and Indian War.
Roswell and Hepsibah had twelve children (second cousins to us):

3934.7.2.1. James Kelsey was born about 1772 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died in 1843 in Hancock (Delaware) New York. He married in 1797, Avis Hoag. Avis was born in 1777 and died in 1823 in New York.

3934.7.2.2. Jeremiah Kelsey was born about 1775 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire. He married about 1800 in Maine, Polly Goodwin, daughter of Theophilus Goodwin and Abigail Adams. Polly was born 2 Feb 1783 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.2.3. Oliver Kelsey was born about 1776 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died 17 May 1840.

3934.7.2.4. Roswell Kelsey was born about 1778 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died 25 Jul 1830 in Newport. He married about 1801, Susan Flanders. Susan was born in 1784 in Essex Co, New York, and died 26 Jan 1857 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire. They had seven children, born in Newport.

3934.7.2.5. Joel Kelsey was born about 1781 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire. He married Ruth Goodwin. Ruth was born 30 Apr 1791 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.2.6. Elias Kelsey was born about 1783 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.2.7. John Kelsey was born about 1784 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died in 1850. He married about 1809, Salona Brown. Salona was born about 1788 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.2.8. Hepsibah Kelsey was born about 1786 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.2.9. Joseph Kelsey was born about 1787 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, and died about 1853.

3934.7.2.10. Ruth Kelsey was born about 1789 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire.

3934.7.3. Giles Kelsey was born 16 Oct 1745 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 4 Oct 1824 in Stowe (Lamoille) Vermont. He married on 24 Apr 1780 in Newport (Sullivan) New Hampshire, Elizabeth Buell [7824.6.6.3.1], daughter of Aaron Buell (1730-1807) and Hannah Post (1734-1771). Elizabeth was born 26 Nov 1755 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 9 Oct 1824.
Giles served in the Revolutionary War.
