You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. 3922. Benajah Stone was born in 1647 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. His death date is uncertain. Some have Nov 1714 in Guilford, others say he died in Jul 1738. The Nov 1714 date is the same as that given for his son, also named Benajah, and the two are probably being confused -- I believe the 1738 date is probably correct. A few sites list him as Benjamin Stone. He is a son of William Stone [7844] and Hannah ___ [7845]. Benajah married in 1673,
3923. Esther Kirby. Esther (also seen as Hester Kirby) was born in 1652 in Middletown (Middlesex) Connecticut. She is a daughter of John Kirby [7846] and Elizabeth Hinds [7847].
Benajah and Esther had four children:
3922.1. Benajah Stone (1674 CT - 1714 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.
3922.2. Hester Stone [1961] (1676 CT - 1711) and Bezaleel Bristol are direct ancestors, separate page.
3922.3. Mary Stone was born 9 Oct 1681 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 27 Jan 1703, age 21.
3922.4. Abraham Stone was born in 1683 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. The only death date I have seen for him is 27 Jan 1703, the same as his sister. Probably either Mary or Abraham has an incorrect date of death.
3922.1. Benajah Stone was born in 1674 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. Most sources I have seen
say he died rather young, Nov 1714, but this date is also given for his father Benajah Sr., and we are not entirely sure to whom the
date really applies (although Hannah’s remarriage suggests Benajah did die early). Benajah married 15 Aug 1702 in Guilford,
Hannah DeWolf, daughter of Edward DeWolf and Rebecca ___. Hannah is said to have had three other husbands, but we have no information on
them. She was born in 1676 in Glastonbury (Hartford) Connecticut.
Benajah and Hannah had five children (first cousins to us):
3922.1.1. Patience Stone was born 12 Nov 1703 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died
6 Nov 1767 in Guilford. She married 14 Apr 1726 in Guilford, Joseph Chittenden,
son of Joseph Chittenden (1672-1727) and Mary Kimberly (1671-1742). Joseph was born 25 Jan 1702 in Guilford (New Haven)
Connecticut, and died 7 Apr 1794 in Guilford.
Patience and Joseph had four children (second cousins to us):
3922.1.1.1. Joseph Chittenden was born in 1727 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died
8 Jan 1793. He married first, in 1749, his cousin Sarah Norton [7820.6.3.1], daughter
of Daniel Norton (1707-1789) and Sarah Bradley (1712-1758). Sarah was born in 1731 and died 14 Feb 1761. Sarah and Joseph
are third cousins, both being descended from 7844 William Stone and Hannah __. Joseph married second, about 1762, his cousin
Rhoda Bishop [7810.6.1.1], daughter of Nathaniel Bishop (1693-1754) and Abigail Stone (1697-1758).
Rhoda and Joseph are also third cousins through 7844 William Stone.
Joseph and first wife Sarah had three children (Sarah, Patience, Rachel), of whom we list two (third cousin to us):
3922.1.1.1.1. Sarah Chittenden was born 12 May 1750, and died 21 Jan 1819 in Hartford (Hartford) Connecticut. She married 19 Aug 1767, Aaron Bradley [7822.4.4.4], son of John Bradley and Mercy French. Aaron was born 6 Sep 1742 and died 15 Sep 1802. Sarah and Aaron might be cousins through Bradley, but we don’t know the connection.
3922.1.1.1.3. Rachel Chittenden was born 10 Mar 1757 in Connecticut, and died 4 Feb 1815. She married 8 May 1794, her cousin Nathan Benton [7820.2.6.7], son of Elizabeth Norton and Daniel Benton. Nathan was born 5 Jul 1741 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 31 Oct 1821. Nathan and Rachel are second cousins once removed, both descending from 7820 John Norton and Hannah Stone. They are also third cousins once removed, through 7846 John Kirby and Elizabeth Hinds.
3922.1.1.2. Nathan Chittenden was born 20 Jul 1730 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 6 Jun 1819. He married 23 Oct 1756 in Guilford, his cousin Ruth Norton [7820.2.3.4], daughter of John Norton (1699-1797) and Mary Groton. Ruth was born Dec 1736 and died 12 Aug 1814. Ruth and Nathan are third cousins through two lines, both being descended from 7844 William Stone and Hannah __, and also from 7846 John Kirby and Elizabeth Hinds.
3922.1.1.3. Lucy Chittenden was born 18 Oct 1736 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 24 May 1820. She married 10 Mar 1768 in North Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, Melzar Fowler [15638.2.1.2.1], son of John Fowler (1714-1796) and Abigail Hall (1707-1776). Melzar was born 25 Mar 1737 and died 26 Feb 1786.
3922.1.1.4. Ambrose Chittenden was born 29 Dec 1744 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 8 Nov 1838 in Guilford. He married on 25 Apr 1764 in Guilford, Zillah Hall, daughter of Justus Hall (1716-1756) and Lucy Munger. Zillah was born 5 Jan 1746 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 25 Dec 1833 in Guilford.
3922.1.2. Abraham Stone was born 24 Feb 1705/06 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
3922.1.3. Benajah Stone was born 25 Sep 1708 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died in 1757.
He married in 1730, Mary Chittenden, daughter of Joseph Chittenden (1677 - ) and Mehitabel Pierce.
Mary was born 26 Mar 1710 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
Benajah and Mary had ten children, but we only know five (second cousins to us):
3922.1.3.1. Benjamin Stone was born about 1735 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
3922.1.3.2. Lucy Stone was born about 1740 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. She married in Jan 1761, Elnathan Botchford. Elnathan was born on 10 Nov 1738 in New Milford (Litchfield) Connecticut.
3922.1.3.3. Lois Stone was born about 1740 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. She married Elias Kinne.
3922.1.3.4. Reuben Stone was born in 1749 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. He married Deborah Comstock, daughter of John Comstock and Deborah Welch. Deborah was born in 1745.
3922.1.3.5. Daniel Stone was born in 1751 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
3922.1.4. Elisha Stone was born 14 Oct 1709 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
3922.1.5. Hester Stone was born in 1711 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
