These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. Samuel Norton and Abigail Ward

3910. Samuel Norton was born 4 Oct 1672 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 2 Apr 1752 in Guilford. He is a son of John Norton [7820] and Hannah Stone [7821]. Samuel married

3911. Abigail Ward. Abigail was born 15 Sep 1672 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 10 Aug 1733, probably in Guilford. She is a daughter of 7822 Andrew Ward and Tryal Meigs.

Some sources give their marriage date as 25 Jan 1692/93 in Guilford, others have it as 15 Nov 1693. The earlier date could be when they filed the intention.

3910.2. Samuel Norton (1698 CT - 1755 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.

3910.4. Ann Norton (also seen as Anna Norton) was born 10 Jul 1703 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 22 Dec 1726 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut. She married 17 Mar 1724/25, Selah Murray. Selah was born 8 May 1701 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died on 13 Mar 1754 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut. Ann died from the birth of their first child.
Ann and Selah had one child (first cousin to us):

3910.4.1. Daniel Murray was born 16 Dec 1726 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 29 Aug 1751.

3910.5. Tryal Norton was born 16 Jan 1705/06 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 19 Aug 1784 in East Guilford. She married 11 May 1738, Richard Bristol [1960.2], son of Bezaleel Bristol and Desire Fey. Richard is a half-brother to our line. He was born in 1714 and died in Apr 1800.

Tryal and Richard had two children that we know of, there may be others (first cousin to us through both parents):

3910.5.1. Desire Bristol was born 3 Feb 1742/43 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died there in 1744, age 1.

3910.5.2. Desire Bristol was born 11 May 1745 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 11 Sep 1830.

3910.6. Mindwell Norton [1955] (1708 CT - 1750) and Samuel Meigs are direct ancestors, separate page.

3910.7. Thankful Norton was born 4 Sep 1710 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.

3910.8. Isaiah Norton was born 12 Jan 1711/12 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. He married 9 Jun 1748, Joanna Morehouse.

3910.1. Abigail Norton was born 12 Nov 1693 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut (some have her birth as 13 Aug 1698). She married 17 Jun 1718 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, Benjamin Griswold, son of John Griswold (1652-1717) and Bathsheba North (1654-1736). Benjamin was born on 26 Sep 1691 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3910.1.1. John Griswold was born 12 Mar 1718/19 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married 29 Sep 1743, Elizabeth Hull [15668.6.1.1], daughter of George Hull (1678-1755) and Phebe Rutty. Elizabeth was born 19 Aug 1721 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
John and Elizabeth had eight children (both second and third cousins to us):

3910.1.2. Lucy Griswold was born 23 Mar 1720/21 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died in 1811. She married 3 Dec 1742, Ebenezer Stevens [15648.3.13.2], son of Jonathan Stevens (1675-) and Deborah Stiles. Ebenezer was born 4 Apr 1713 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
Lucy and Ebenezer had twelve children (both second and third cousins to us):

3910.1.2.2. Lucy Stevens was born 20 Jan 1744/45 in Connecticut. She married Zara Beach.

3910.1.2.3. Zada Stevens was born 12 Mar 1747/48 in Connecticut. She married Joseph Hamilton.

3910.1.2.4. Asenath Stevens was born 10 Sep 1750 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 16 Jun 1816 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. She married in 1772, Jared Harrison. Jared was born 8 Jul 1749 in Chester (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 22 Sep 1842 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut.

3910.1.2.5. Abigail Stevens was born 17 Feb 1752 in Connecticut. She married Nathaniel Smith.

3910.1.2.6. Beulah Stevens was born 7 Aug 1753 in Connecticut. She married Ebenezer Gould.

3910.1.2.9. Thankful Stevens was born 2 Apr 1759 in Connecticut. She married Moses Calkins.

3910.1.2.10. Mindwell Stevens was born 9 May 1761 in Connecticut. She married Saba Canfield.

3910.1.2.11. Lydia Stevens was born 15 Aug 1762 in Connecticut. She married Allen Nathaniel.

3910.1.2.12. Joel Stevens was born 26 Mar 1765 in Connecticut. He married Lydia Hurd.

3910.1.3. Abigail Griswold was born 13 Sep 1726 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died sometime before 1753. She married 4 Sep 1749 in Killingworth, Jonathan Franklin [15670.6.5.2.2], son of Jonathan Franklin and Esther Parmelee (1698-1788). Jonathan was born 31 Jul 1722 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
Abigail and Jonathan had two children (both second and fourth cousins to us):

3910.1.3.1. Ishi Franklin was born 4 Apr 1750 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 16 Nov 1795 in Killingworth. He married on 19 Aug 1771 in Killingworth, his cousin Martha Pierson [3912.1.1.5], daughter of Samuel Pierson (1721-1801) and Lydia Stevens (1725-1802). Martha was born 28 Feb 1753 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died in 1799 in Killingworth. Martha and Ishi are fourth cousins, both being descended from 15632 John Meigs and Thomasine Fry. They had thirteen children.

3910.1.3.2. Samuel Franklin was born in 1752 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 9 Nov 1826 in Litchfield (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married his cousin Mabel Pierson [7864.5.3.1.3], daughter of John Pierson (1717-1794) and Sybil Parmelee (1725-1815). Mabel was born 26 May 1753 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. Samuel and Mabel are fourth cousins, both being descended from 15632 John Meigs and Thomasine Fry.

3910.1.4. Benjamin Griswold was born 27 Apr 1728 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married Susanna ___.
Benjamin and Susanna had two children (second cousins to us):

3910.1.4.1. Abigail Griswold was born 8 Jul 1754 in Canaan (Litchfield) Connecticut.

3910.1.4.2. Benjamin Griswold was born 3 Dec 1756 in Canaan (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married Elizabeth Eastman, daughter of Jonathan Eastman and Elizabeth Wood.

3910.1.5. Amaziah Griswold was born 7 Sep 1731 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3910.1.6. Daniel Griswold was born in 1733 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.

3910.2. Samuel Norton was born 13 Aug 1698 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died Nov 1755 in East Guilford. He married 6 Sep 1722 in Guilford, Thankful Wilcoxson [15736.8.13], daughter of Obadiah Wilcoxson (1648-1714) and Silence Mansfield (1664-). Thankful was born 4 Apr 1702 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut.
Samuel and Thankful had five children (both first and second cousins to us):

3910.2.2. Ishi Norton was born in 1729, and died 21 Jul 1801. He married first, probably around 1750, Mary Hand. Mary was born about 1730 and died 6 Jul 1785. Ishi married second, about 1787, Lydia Hill. Lydia was born 27 Nov 1752.
We don’t know of any children from Ishi and Mary. There are two children listed for Ishi and Lydia -- I list them here, though I have some doubts on this assignment based on the fact that Ishi is about 60 when they are born.

3910.2.2.1. Samuel Norton was born in 1788 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 22 Sep 1855 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut. He married 23 May 1815, Polly Dee. Polly was born 13 Sep 1795 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut.

3910.2.2.2. Lydia Norton was born in 1790 in Clinton (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 6 May 1866 in Madison (New Haven) Connecticut.

3910.2.5. Ann Norton was born in the late 1730’s. She married 28 Jul 1757 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, Ebenezer Jewell. Ebenezer was born on 25 Jan 1736/37, and died Feb 1776 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut.
Ann and Ebenezer had seven children (second cousin to us):

3910.2.5.2. Ebenezer Jewell was born 14 Dec 1759, and died in 1785 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. He married 11 Nov 1781, Sally Button.

3910.2.5.3. Esther Jewell was born 5 Sep 1761, and died in 1801. She married in 1796, John Dunham.

3910.2.5.4. Thankful Jewell was born 1 Dec 1763, and died 21 Aug 1802 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut. She married 18 Feb 1786, Michael Thornton, son of Ezra Thornton and Ruth ___. Michael was born 15 Nov 1763 in Salisbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died in New York.

3910.2.5.5. Anne Jewell was born 29 Sep 1765, and died 15 Jan 1829 in Pembroke (Genessee) New York. She married in 1794, Solomon Patterson.

3910.2.5.7. Reuben Jewell was born 22 May 1769, and died Mar 1844 in McKean Co, Pennsylvania. He married in 1794, Jane Hazelton.

3910.3. Keziah Norton was born 21 Dec 1700 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. She married 1 Aug 1723, John Graves, son of John Graves and Hannah Davis. John was born 3 Mar 1695 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 8 Oct 1771. He was a blacksmith.
Keziah and John had ten children (first cousins to us):

3910.3.2. Phebe Graves was born 29 Jan 1726, and died 1 Sep 1784. She married 6 Aug 1752, Enos Hull [3918.1.3], son of Thomas Hull and Mary Lawton. Enos was born 12 Jan 1724/25 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 17 Feb 1785.
Phebe and Enos had five children, listed under Enos.

3910.3.6. John Graves was born 9 Oct 1735 in East Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died there 13 Apr 1791. He married first, 20 Dec 1760, his cousin Elizabeth Graves, daughter of Ebenezer Graves (1705-1785) and Marion Isbell. Elizabeth was born Sep 1736, and died 17 Apr 1766. John and Elizabeth are third cousins through Graves, outside our lines.
John married second, Sarah Dudley [3924.3.1.5], daughter of Thomas Dudley (1701-1776) and Abigail Seward (1714-1790). Sarah was born on 14 Mar 1743/44 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 19 Nov 1799 in Connecticut. There were no children that we know of from this second marriage.
John and first wife Elizabeth had four children (second cousins to us):

3910.3.6.1. John Graves was born 16 Oct 1761, and died 28 Apr 1819. He married in Jun 1787 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, Hannah Crane [1966.2.5], daughter of Daniel Crane (1726-1784) and Elizabeth Isbell (1738-1790). Hannah was born Oct 1763, and died 16 Jan 1852. Hannah and John are at least fourth cousins, both descending from 15632 John Meigs and Thomasine Fry. I suspect they are probably also cousins through Isbell, outside our lines. They were Congregational, married in the First Church of Killingworth.

John served in the Revolutionary War, as a private in Capt Vail’s Company from Guilford. He served 8 months in 1781, and possibly some in 1780.
John and Hannah had six children, listed under Hannah.

3910.3.6.4. Miriam Graves was born in 1766. She married Joseph Bartlett. Joseph was born 8 Nov 1757, and died 23 Aug 1787.

3910.3.9. Samuel Graves was born 11 Jun 1746, and died 7 Jul 1822 in Stonington (New London) Connecticut. He married 3 Mar 1774 in New London (New London) Connecticut, Anna Hern. Anna was born about 1757 and died 29 Jan 1830.
Samuel served in the Revolutionary War in the 6th Connecticut Regiment, and was wounded in battle. He is said to have been at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Samuel and Anna had eight children (second cousins to us):

3910.3.9.2. William Graves was born 7 Feb 1779, and died 14 Jul 1859. He married Abigail Peters.

3910.3.9.4. John Graves was born 25 Jun 1784, and died 15 Jul 1868. He married Elizabeth Peters.

3910.3.9.5. Anna Graves was born 27 Jul 1786, and died 24 Feb 1825. She married Oliver Dennison.

3910.3.9.8. Barnabas Graves was born 8 Apr 1795, and died 11 Jan 1818. He married Eleanor Cogswell, daughter of Isaac Cogswell and Molly Loomis, and the widow of ___ Whitney.

3910.3.10. Rufus Graves was born 27 Sep 1749. He married 7 Nov 1773, his cousin Elizabeth Benton. Elizabeth was born 20 Dec 1745 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. Rufus and Elizabeth are second cousins, both being descended from 7820 John Norton and Hannah Stone. They are also third cousins through Graves, outside our family lines.
Rufus and Elizabeth had two children (both second and third cousin to us):
