Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Eldora Beahm |
||
| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further. | HOME | |

NOTABLES:
1958.2.5. Josiah Chatfield served in the Revolutionary War |
1958. Josiah Chatfield was born 7 Jan 1700/01 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 8 Mar 1790 in Killingworth. He is a son of George Chatfield [3916] and Hester Hull [3917]. Josiah married 1 May 1724 in Killingworth, his cousin

Daniel and Naomi are first cousins once removed, both being descended from Josiah Hull and Elizabeth Loomis. After Mary died, Josiah married 1 Jul 1746 in Killingworth, Hannah Nichols. We don’t know of any children from the second marriage.
Josiah and Mary had ten children:

1958.10. Jonathan Chatfield (1743 CT - 1805) had descendants and is expanded below.
1958.2. Josiah Chatfield was born 23 Feb 1726/27 in Killingworth (Middlesex)
Connecticut, and died 8 Mar 1790 in Killingworth. He married 17 Oct 1754 in Killingworth, his cousin
Rebina Griswold [3918.2.8], daughter of Michael Griswold and Elizabeth Hull (1691-1752).
Rebina was born 11 Apr 1732 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 9 Aug 1805.
Rebina and Josiah are first cousins through their mothers, both being grandchildren of 3918 Thomas Hull and Hannah Sheather; they
are also second cousins once removed, through Josiah’s father and Rebina’s mother.
Josiah and Rebina had eight children (both first and second cousins to us):
1958.2.1. Elizabeth Chatfield was born 26 Aug 1755 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and
died in Durham (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 18 Oct 1792, John Turner. John was born 15 Jul 1766
in Middletown (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 13 Dec 1798 in Durham (Middlesex) Connecticut.

1958.2.2. Jonathan Chatfield was born 13 Jul 1757 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. There are some
problems with this person, as some have clearly mixed him up with his uncle, 1958.10 Jonathan. The same
Revolutionary War service, and the same wife and children are assigned to both Jonathans by different sources. Not having seen
anything other than secondary websites, I have no way at this time to tell which is correct. I list it here the way I first saw it,
recognizing that this may all change with further research.
Jonathan was married, wife unknown.
They had one child that we know of, there may be others (second cousin to us):
1958.2.2.1. Hannah Chatfield was born in 1780 in Connecticut. She married about 1800, Solomon Moore. Solomon was born in 1773.

Susanna Hull [3918.7.7.2], daughter of Joel Hull and Mary Parmelee. Susanna was born 19 Apr 1766 in Killingworth, and
died sometime after 1820. I guess you could say they are second cousins four times over -- they each have two grandparents who are
children of 3918 Thomas Hull and Hannah Sheather, so each of Josiah’s parents are first cousins to each of Susanna’s
parents as well as to each other, and vice-versa. Susanna’s sister Sarah marries Josiah’s brother Michael.
Josiah served in the Revolutionary War.
Josiah and Susanna had six children (second cousins to us):
1958.2.5.1. Joel Chatfield was born 27 Apr 1788 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 26 Aug 1849. He married 18 Nov 1799, his cousin Sarah Hull [3918.7.7.3], daughter of Joel Hull and Mary Parmelee. They are second cousins several times over -- all four of their parents are first cousins to one another. Sarah’s sister Susannah marries Michael’s brother Josiah.

Connecticut to New York in the early 1760’s.
Jesse served in the Revolutionary War, and is said to have fought at the Battle of Saratoga (this may well be true,
but it is also possible that someone has mistaken the battle for the fact that they lived near Saratoga).

Some sources assign this war service, as well as the marriage to Dinah, to Jonathan’s nephew 1958.2.2

so what I have here may be changed in the future.
