1952. David Blatchley Sr. was born 23 Jun 1689 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 22 Oct 1751 in Guilford. David married twice, and had children from both marriages. He married first, 14 May 1717 in East Hampton (Suffolk) New York, our ancestor
1953. Abigail Hand. Abigail was born in 1701 in East Hampton (Suffolk) New York, and died 18 Jun 1730 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. They were Anglican.
After Abigail died, David married 15 Oct 1731, Temperance Spencer. Temperance was born sometime around 1690, and died 31 Oct 1746.
David and Abigail had three children:
1952.1. Esther Blatchley (1718 CT - d. CT) had descendants and is expanded below.
1952.2. Phebe Blatchley (1720 CT - 1801) had descendants and is expanded below.
1952.3. David Blatchley Jr. [976] (1723 CT - 1804 NY] and Lydia Meigs are direct ancestors, separate page.
David and Temperance had 5 children:
1952.4. Temperance Blatchley was born 30 Jul 1733. She married Jeremiah Parmelee [15670.6.5.5.1], son of Lemuel Parmelee and Sarah Kelsey. They were married in the Congregational Church in Killingworth.
Temperance and Jeremiah had one child that we know of (first cousin to us):
1952.4.1. John Parmelee was born 12 Feb 1755 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 14 Feb 1828 in Sullivan (Ashland) Ohio. He married 17 Dec 1779 in South Haddam (Middlesex) Connecticut, Dorothy Scovil. Dorothy was born 14 Jul 1755 in Connecticut.
1952.5. Mercy Blatchley was born 26 Nov 1736. She married Benjamin Beach.
1952.6. Abraham Blatchley was born 19 Dec 1738, and died 19 Oct 1751, age 12.
1952.7. Susanna Blatchley was born 29 Jul 1741. She married Eliphalet Stevens.
1952.8. Sarah Blatchley was born 31 Aug 1746. She married Samuel Higgins.
1952.1. Esther Blatchley
was born 15 Oct 1718 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut. She
married 19 Feb 1739/40 in Connecticut, Nathan Willard, son of Thomas
Willard and Abigail Bradley (1673-1746). Nathan was born 25 Jun 1714
in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died Jun 1772.
Esther and Nathan had three children (first cousins to us):
1952.1.1. Elisha Willard was born 12 Dec 1741, probably inGuilford. He married 8 May 1775 in Westbrook, Connecticut, Ann Post [7854.1.3.6.3], daughter of Nathaniel Post and Ann Parker. Ann was born 4 Sep 1746 in Saybrook, Connecticut, and died sometime after 1822. Elisha and Ann are fourth cousins, both being descended from John Bishop and Ann Stevens. They were married in the Saybrook (Westbrook) Congregational Church.
1952.1.2. Peleg Willard was born 5 Apr 1743 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 29 Apr 1807 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married Hannah Hutchins. Hannah was born about 1745 in Windham, Maine, and died about 1775 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Peleg and Hannah had three children (second cousins to us):
1952.1.2.1. Jesse Willard was born 10 Mar 1760 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and died 18 Apr 1828 in Portland, Maine. He married 28 Dec 1789, Mary Dyer, daughter of Micah Dyer (1727 MA - 1797 ME) and Hannah Marriner (b. 1730 ME). Mary was born 23 Oct 1767 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and died 18 Sep 1851 in Portland, Maine. They had eight children.
1952.1.2.2. Giles Willard was born about 1764 in Maine. He married Dorcas Strout, daughter of Daniel Strout and Mary Delano.
1952.1.2.3. Joseph Willard was born about 1775 in Maine.
1952.1.3. Daniel Willard was born in 1745. A few sources have him married to a Sarah Silliman, but I believe that is a different Daniel Willard born 1760.
1952.2. Phebe Blatchley
was born 10 Oct 1720 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 29
Jul 1801. She married 10 Apr 1751, her second cousin Thomas Hall
[7810.5.7.1], son of Highland Hall and Rachel Bishop. Thomas was born
11 Feb 1726 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died on 23 Dec 1804 in
Bennington (Bennington) Vermont.
Phebe and Thomas had four children (both first and third cousins to us):
1952.2.1. Rachel Hall was born 27 Jan 1755 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died 5 Sep 1756 in Guilford, age 1.
1952.2.2. Phebe Hall was born 13 Jan 1758 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and
died 30 Aug 1831. She married David Blakely. David was born in 1749, and died in 1821. He
served in the Revolutionary War. The source said they were "Methodist Congregational" (?). I never heard of
this, but suppose it is possible, as Methodism in the early days was a movement within the established church, not a religion
in its own right.
Phebe and David had ten children, but we know only one (second cousin to us):
1952.2.2.1. Nathaniel Blakely was born 6 May 1798 in Pawlet (Rutland) Vermont, and died 12 Jun 1883 in Madison (Lake) Ohio. He married Polly Law. Polly was born 25 Mar 1801 in Wells (Rutland) Vermont, and died 30 Dec 1874 in Madison (Lake) Ohio. Source says Nathaniel was born Methodist Congregational, but later changed to Congregational.
1952.2.3. Thomas Hall was born 3 Apr 1760 in Roxbury (Litchfield) Connecticut, and died 13 Jun 1801. He married Elizabeth Fairchild.
1952.2.4. Nathaniel Hall was born 4 Mar 1763 in Roxbury (Litchfield)
Connecticut, and died 4 Mar 1849. He married 12 Oct
1794 in Connecticut, Abigail Hubbard. Abigail was born 18 Oct 1766 in Connecticut, and died 24
Mar 1846. They were farmers, and were Baptist.
Nathaniel and Abigail had two sons and five daughters, but we only know one (second cousin to us):
1952.2.4.1. Hiland Hall was born 20 Jul 1795 in Bennington (Bennington) Vermont, and died 18 Dec 1885 in Springfield (Hampden) Massachusetts. He married 27 Oct 1818, Dolly Tuttle Davis, daughter of Henry Davis and Mary Tuttle. Hiland was a lawyer and politician. He was a Vermont State Representative in 1827, served in the United States Congress (Whig, Vermont) 1833-1843, was on the Vermont Supreme Court 1846-1850, and Governor of Vermont (Republican) 1858-1860. He is buried in Bennington, Vermont.
