Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Eldora Beahm

These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further.   HOME

NOTABLES:

982 Theophilus Redfield served in the French and Indian War, and also married into Rita’s side of the family
982.2. Nathan Redfield served in the Seven Year’s War (died)
982.3. Levi Redfield served in the Seven Year’s War and Revolutionary War

982. Theophilus Redfield Jr. {a,wa} was born 6 Sep 1718 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 30 Jan 1770 in Killingworth. He is a son of Theophilus Redfield [1964] and Priscilla Grinnell [1965]. Theophilus married (in the second marriage for both) about 1750 in Killingworth, our ancestor

983. Martha Crane {a,wa}. Martha was born 9 May 1728 in Clinton (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 20 Jan 1778. She is a daughter of Ebenezer Crane [1966] and Anna Wilcoxson [1967], and the widow of Philip Gray.

Martha and Theophilus had both been married previously, and both had children from their first marriages.
Theophilus was a sergeant in the militia company commanded by his brother Peleg during the French and Indian Wars in 1759 and 1760, and in 1761 he was an endign in the same company.

Theophilus married first, 4 Sep 1740 in Killingworth, Mary Buell [SPENCER 5632.7.3.1.3.6], daughter of Benjamin Buell (1686 CT - 1725 CT) and Hannah Hutchinson (1688-1728). Mary was born 4 Apr 1722 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 22 Aug 1749 in Killingworth, a month after the birth of their fourth child. She is a fourth cousin to Rita’s side of the family. Several of her sisters and uncles also married into Bill’s lines.

Theophilus and first wife Mary had four children (half-siblings to Bill’s side, and also fifth cousins to Rita’s side):

982.1. Eliakim Redfield (1741 CT - 1785 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.

982.2. Nathan Redfield {a,wa} was born 31 Jul 1743 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 4 Nov 1762 at sea. Nathan served in the militia company commanded by his uncle Peleg during the French and Indian War, 1759 and 1760. He also served in the Seven Years War between Britain and Spain et al. He enlisted in a Connecticut Colonial regiment under the control of the British Army. See Levi for details. They were part of an expedition that captured Havana, Cuba from the Spanish. Nathan died from disease on the voyage home.

982.3. Levi Redfield (1745 CT - 1838 NY) had descendants and is expanded below.

982.4. Isaac Redfield {wa} was born 29 Jul 1749 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 23 Nov 1749 in Killingworth, age 4 months.

Martha Crane had first married Philip Gray. Philip was born about 1719 died 30 Jan 1750 (Redfield {a} gives the date as 1770, which I assume is a typographical error for 1750).
Martha and first husband Phillip had one daughter (half-sister to our line):

983.1. Lydia Gray (1749 CT - 1771 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.

Theophilus and Martha had six children:

982.5. Philip Redfield {wa} was born 25 Nov 1751 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 27 Feb 1780 in Saybrook (Middlesex) Connecticut.

982.8. Elias Redfield {wa} was born 31 Jan 1757 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 21 May 1808 in Killingworth.

982.9. Martha Redfield {wa} was born 18 Feb 1758 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 14 Feb 1778 in Killingworth. She married 9 Feb 1775, Caleb Turner. They were Congregational and were married in the 2nd Church of Killingworth by Rev William Seward.

982.10. Nathan Redfield (1763 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.

983.1. Lydia Gray (daughter of Martha’s first marriage) was born 10 Aug 1749 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 11 Dec 1771 in Killingworth. She married her cousin James Hull [7834.3.2.1], son of Josiah Hull (b. 1720) and Elizabeth Buell (b. 1723). James was born 13 Jul 1745 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 28 Feb 1820 in Killingworth. James and Lydia are fourth cousins, both being descended from 15632 John Meigs and Thomasine Fry. Lydia died from the birth of their only child.
Lydia and James had one child (both first and third cousin to us):

983.1.1. Lydia Hull was born 22 Nov 1771 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 29 Jan 1857 in Killingworth. She married 11 Dec 1791 in Killingworth, her cousin Reuben Stevens [1956.6.2], son of Reuben Stevens (1738-1819) and Dinah Parmelee (1734-1812). Reuben was born on 17 Jun 1766 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 13 Apr 1841 in Killingworth. Reuben and Lydia are third cousins, both being descended from 7834 John Hull and Abigail Kelsey. They are also cousins through Stevens (Lydia actually has more Stevens in her than Reuben does), and through Crane. It’s complicated.
Lydia and Reuben had four children, listed under Reuben.

982.1. Eliakim Redfield {a,wa} (son of Theophilus’ first marriage) was born 26 May 1741 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 28 Jan 1785 in Killingworth. He married 1 Jan 1766 in Killingworth, Priscilla Nettleton [15666.1.1.8.2], daughter of Josiah Nettleton (1709-1751) and Sarah Davis (1712-). Priscilla was born 7 Nov 1740 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died after 1785. They were Congregational and were married in the 2nd Church of Killingworth by Rev William Seward.
Eliakim and Priscilla had six children (both first and fourth cousins to us):

She married in 1786 in Killingworth, Benajah Dudley, son of Nathaniel Dudley (1720-1806) and Sybil Munger (1725-1808). Benajah was born 27 May 1763 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 20 Jun 1850 in Brattleboro (Windham) Vermont. Benajah is not directly related to us, but is a cousin to any grandchildren of 15670.9.4 Abigail Kelsey.
They moved to Vermont in 1787, and were farmers there.
Elizabeth and Benajah had seven children (second cousins to us), only two of whom survived to adulthood:

982.1.1.1. Linus Dudley {a,wa} was born 30 Nov 1786 in Brattleboro (Windham) Vermont, and died 6 Feb 1803 in Brattleboro, age 16.

982.1.1.3. Roswell Dudley {a,wa} was born 5 Dec 1794 in Brattleboro (Windham) Vermont, and died 5 Feb 1803 in Brattleboro, age 9. The close dates of death for Linus and Roswell may be due to a yellow fever epidemic in 1803.

982.1.1.4. Elizabeth Dudley {a,wa} was born 3 Apr 1799 in Brattleboro (Windham) Vermont, and died 20 Nov 1841.

They are fourth cousins through two of our lines, both descending from 15666 Samuel Nettleton and Maria, and also from 15668 Josiah Hull and Elizabeth Loomis. 982.1.5. Rachel Redfield {a,wa} was born 2 Sep 1776 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. The Killingworth town records state she was born and died the same day. However, the distribution of Eliakim’s estate in 1786 gives a share to third daughter Rachel.

982.1.6. Roswell Redfield {a,wa} was born 13 Sep 1778 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died sometime before 1860 probably in Vermont. He married 2 Feb 1806, Elizabeth Belknap. In Jun 1762 they were sent to attack Havana, Cuba, which was owned by Spain. On the way they were caught in a storm and shipwrecked on one of the Florida Keys. About 500 men were stranded on the uninhabited island for some time, but were picked up in time to take part in the siege. The British forces were successful in capturing Havana, and Levi’s Regiment was sent back home. Nathan died of fever on the return trip, and Levi also suffered from disease.
