I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. 976. David Blatchley Jr. was born 7 Aug 1723 in Guilford (New Haven) Connecticut, and died in 1804 in Windsor (Broome) New York. He is a son of David Blatchley [1952] and Abigail Hand [1953]. David married first, on 20 May 1752 in Connecticut, Lucy Wright. They had no children; Lucy died in 1753 during childbirth, and the baby also died.
David married second, 2 May 1754 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, his second cousin
977. Lydia Meigs. Lydia was born 5 Mar 1738/39 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut,
and died 3 Feb 1801 in Killingworth. She is a daughter of
Samuel Meigs [1954] and Mindwell Norton [1955].
They were Congregational, and were married in the 2nd Church of Killingworth by Rev William Seward.
David and Lydia are second cousins (technically half second cousin), both being descended from a marriage of Stephen Hand.
David and Lydia had eight children:
976.1. Lucy Blatchley was born 6 Feb 1755 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 5 Feb 1849.
976.2. Stephen Blatchley was born 3 Sep 1756 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 5 Apr 1778.
976.3. Adah Blatchley (1758 CT - 1822 CT) had descendants and is expanded below.
976.4. Daniel Blatchley [488] (1760 CT - 1854 NY) and Rebina Stevens are direct ancestors, separate page.
976.5. John Blatchley was born 19 Aug 1764 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. He married
about 1799 in Killingworth, Charity Kelsey [3916.7.6.1], daughter of Martin Kelsey and
Esther Chatfield. Charity was born 19 Nov 1772 in Killingworth. John and Charity are fourth cousins, both being
descended from 15632 John Meigs and Tomasine Fry.
John and Charity had four children (both first and third cousins to us):
976.5.1. Olive Blatchley was born 30 Sep 1800.
976.5.2. Dency Blatchley was born 18 May 1803. He is also seen in places as Dewey Blatchley.
976.5.3. Laura Blatchley was born about 1805. She married Frederick Davis.
976.5.4. Lurentus Blatchley was born about 1806.
976.6. Janna Blatchley was born 8 Jun 1766 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died at 4 months, 8 Oct 1766 in Killingworth.
976.7. Sene Blatchley was born 21 Mar 1769 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died Dec 1849. She converted to Methodist Episcopalian.
976.8. Luman Blatchley was born 23 Nov 1773 in Killingworth (Middlesex)
Connecticut, and died about 1843 in New York. He married Ruth Hale. Ruth was born 3 Oct 1773.
Luman and Ruth had at least three children (first cousins to us):
976.8.1. Neri Blatchley was born sometime around 1800.
976.8.2. unknown daughter Blatchley was born sometime around 1800.
976.8.3. unknown daughter Blatchley was born sometime around 1800.
There is possibly a second son Luman Blatchley Jr.
976.3. Adah Blatchley was born 17 Sep 1758in Killingworth (Middlesex)
Connecticut, and died Mar 1822 in Killingworth. Sometimes seen as Ada. She married 15 Sep 1779
in Killingworth, Joel Norton, son of Benjamin Norton (1719 CT) and
Elizabeth Seward (1724 CT). Joel was born on 17 Sep 1750, and died 28 Dec 1827 in Killingworth.
Joel served in the Revolutionary War; his gravestone states “2nd Company 1st Regiment”. Adah
was Congregational, and they were married in the 2nd Church of Killingworth by Rev. William Seward. But they apparently
had some disagreement with the church, for they were among the founders of the Killingworth Episcopal Church in 1800.
They are both buried in the Stonehouse Yard Cemetery, Killingworth.
Adah and Joel had three children (first cousins to us):
976.3.1. Jerusha Norton was born sometime around 1800 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
976.3.2. Linus Norton was born in 1785 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 18 Aug 1863 in Killingworth. He married Roxanna Lane [1964.8.6.3], daughter of John Lane and Roxanna Redfield. Roxanna was born 19 Sep 1787 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 25 Feb 1869. Her brother John marries Linus’ sister Elizabeth.
976.3.3. Elizabeth Norton was born about 1788 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut. She married 15 Oct 1806,
John Redfield Lane [1964.8.6.2], son of John Lane and Roxanna Redfield. John was
born 23 Oct 1785 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
Elizabeth and John had four children (both second and third cousin to us):
976.3.3.1. John Orlin Lane was born 12 Apr 1807 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 9 May 1833. He married 1 May 1831 in Connecticut, Rachel L. James. Rachel was born in 1805, and died 21 Jan 1888.
976.3.3.2. Leartes Leverett Lane was born 23 Mar 1809 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut.
976.3.3.3. Norman Lane was born 11 Sep 1811 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 28 May 1829, age 17.
976.3.3.4. Arthur H. Lane was born 20 Mar 1815 in Killingworth (Middlesex) Connecticut, and died 18 Aug 1852 in North Madison, Connecticut. He married 8 Mar 1840, Lydia Dudley.

There is some significant disagreement on the above data. Some sources have David marrying Lydia Franklin in place of Lydia Meigs. Some have Lydia Meigs marrying Thelus Ward instead of David Blatchley. Some show her as Lydia Franklin Meigs. Some have Thelus Ward marrying Lydia Franklin. Some have Lydia’s death as 1775. I am following what seems to be the consensus among what I believe to be the more reliable sources, but recognize that our whole line from Lydia on back may turn out to be incorrect. We’ll just call this our mythological ancestry.
