Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Amasa Aldrich and Uranah Payne

464. Amasa Aldrich {wa} was born 13 Jun 1760 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 11 Feb 1843 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. He is a son of Levi Aldrich [928] and Abigail Hunt [929]. Amasa married 1 Nov 1780 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts,

465. Uranah Payne {wa}. Uranah (also seen as Urana Paine) was born 17 Sep 1763 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island, and died 11 Feb 1843 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

Payne is derived from Latin Paganus, meaning someone who lived out in the countryside. It later came to mean pagan and was given to people who were not baptized, or not of strong faith, but that meaning was lost long ago. The names Payne, Paine, Pain, Pane, etc., are all related, and were already widespread in England when the Domesday Book was recorded in 1086 AD.
We know nothing about Uranah's parents. Her name is also seen in various sources as Urania Payne, or Urana Paine.

Rita’s family also has a direct Payne line; as far as we know they are unrelated.

464.1. Marmaduke Aldrich [232] (1781 RI - 1858 WI) and Polly Cole are direct ancestors, separate page.

464.2. Mary Aldrich was born 27 May 1783 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 18 Jun 1859 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 30 Sep 1805 in New Hampshire, Timothy Thompson.

464.3. Uranah Aldrich (1785 MA - 1866 NH) had descendants and is expanded below.

464.4. Phinehas Aldrich was born 20 Jan 1787 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 2 Oct 1847. He married 8 Oct 1814 in Scituate (Providence) Rhode Island, Mary Connell.

464.6. Paine Aldrich was born 4 Jan 1791 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 1 Aug 1871. He married first, 18 Feb 1813 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Sarah Hammond. Sarah was born about 1795, and died about 1840. She was called Sally.
Paine married second, 24 Jun 1841 in Uxbridge (Worcester) Massachusetts, Sophia ___.

464.7. Rufus Aldrich was born 20 Jan 1793 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 21 Aug 1798 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, age 5.

464.8. Otis Aldrich was born 6 Jul 1795 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 21 Aug 1798 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, age 3.

464.9. David Aldrich was born 6 Sep 1797 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 3 Sep 1841. He married 3 Jan 1827 in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire, Olive Holbrook.

464.10. Anna Aldrich was born 31 Aug 1799 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 21 Apr 1883. One source has her birth date as 29 Feb 1800, and mentions the Leap Year birthday -- but there is no such date. Anna married 8 Jan 1825 in Swanzey, Luke Bennett. Luke was born in 1799 and died in 1854. One source lists a son, David, with no dates, but it is the same source that gave the wrong birth date.

464.11. Paul Fisher Aldrich was born 26 Dec 1801 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 20 Oct 1878. He married 7 Aug 1822 in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire, Susanna Luvana Cook.

464.12. Jacob Aldrich was born 3 Mar 1804 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died five days later, 8 Mar 1804 in Swanzey.

464.14. Jethro Aldrich was born 30 Mar 1806 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died three days later, 2 Apr 1806 in Swanzey.

464.15. William Aldrich was born 20 Oct 1808 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania.

464.3. Uranah Aldrich was born 3 Mar 1785 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 26 Aug 1866 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 28 Oct 1802 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Jesse Thompson, son of Samuel Thompson (1733 MA - 1803 NH) and Rhoda Smith. Jesse was born 19 Mar 1777 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 18 Mar 1854 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire.
Uranah and Jesse had twelve children (first cousins to us):

464.3.1. Mary Thompson was born 1 Dec 1802 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 5 Jul 1825 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Hiram P. Bennett.

464.3.2. Rhoda Thompson was born 6 Sep 1804 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 4 Jun 1834 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Asa Maynard, son of Antipas Maynard and Sally Rice. Asa was born 14 Aug 1804 in Sullivan (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 6 Sep 1872 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.3.3. Uranah Thompson was born 6 Jul 1806 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 27 May 1850 in Girard, Pennsylvania. She married 7 Sep 1825 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Chauncey Haven, son of John Haven and Martha Death. Chauncey was born 24 Feb 1800 in Athol, Massachusetts, and died 16 Feb 1881 in Lockport, Pennsylvania.

464.3.4. Calista Thompson was born 8 Jul 1808 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 1 Dec 1841 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married Asa Jackson, son of Daniel Jackson and Milly Whitcomb. Asa was born about 1806 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.3.5. Russell F. Thompson was born 1 Dec 1810 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Iowa. He married 18 Nov 1830 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Hester Clark, daughter of James Clark and Hannah Mears. Hester was born about 1809 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.3.6. Rachel P. Thompson was born 18 May 1813 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 5 Jun 1830 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Ezekiel Osgood, son of Elisha Osgood and Clara Ransom. Ezekiel was born 30 Sep 1810 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died about 1869 in Vermont.

464.3.7. Jesse Thompson was born 20 Jan 1816 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died about 1864. He married 3 Sep 1839 in Worcester (Worcester) Massachusetts, Catherine Esther Curby. Catherine was born 23 Nov 1818 in Worcester (Worcester) Massachusetts.
Jesse and Catherine had one child that we know of, there may be others (second cousin to us):

464.3.7.1. Ann Maria Thompson was born 9 Aug 1844 in Worcester (Worcester) Massachusetts.

464.3.8. Angeline Thompson was born 16 Mar 1818 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married Massina Babbitt, son of Jonathan Babbitt and Elizabeth Haskins. Massina was born 1 Jun 1812.

464.3.9. Joshua Chandler Thompson was born 22 Apr 1821 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania. He married Caroline Thompson, daughter of Aaron Thompson and Hannah Greenwood. Joshua and Caroline might be cousins, but the relation is unknown. Caroline was born 13 Feb 1821 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire.
Joshua and Caroline had seven children (second cousins to us):

464.3.9.1. Mary Augusta Thompson was born 14 Dec 1846 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Worcester (Worcester) Massachusetts. She married 25 Dec 1873 in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania, Marcus Nahum Cutler. Marcus was born 31 Jul 1831 in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania.

464.3.9.2. Henry Aaron Thompson was born 20 Jul 1848 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Omaha (Douglas) Nebraska. He married 20 Jan 1875 in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania, Emma O. Fletcher.

464.3.9.3. Sarah Althea Thompson was born 14 Apr 1851 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 21 Mar 1854 in Keene, age 3.

464.3.9.4. Ellie J. Thompson was born 7 Jan 1854 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.3.9.5. Addis Jesse Thompson was born 17 Oct 1855 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire. He married Mary Ellen Gardner.

464.3.9.6. Ada Calista Thompson was born 9 Mar 1858 in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania. She married James M. Morrison.

464.3.9.7. Joshua Chandler Thompson was born 9 Mar 1858 in Girard (Erie) Pennsylvania, and died Jul 1881.

464.3.10. David Thompson was born 10 Aug 1823 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died in Spring Prairie, Iowa. He married 19 Dec 1846 in Winchendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, Ann W. Tubbs. Ann was born about 1827, and died 5 Aug 1850 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.3.11. Emily A. Thompson was born 5 Aug 1825 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 5 Jun 1844 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Dana I. Wyman.

464.3.12. Lysander Fay Thompson was born 1 Sep 1828 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 14 May 1883 in Boston (Middlesex) Massachusetts. He married 7 Apr 1851 in Winchendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, Mary Ellen Barber, daughter of John Parker Barber and Eleanor Bellows. Mary was born 24 Oct 1827 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 22 May 1861 in Fitchburg (Worcester) Massachusetts.

464.3.12.2. Jessie G. Thompson was born 16 Dec 1856 in Templeton (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 7 Dec 1860 in Fitchburg (Worcester) Massachusetts.

464.3.12.3. Elizabeth Jane Thompson was born 1 Sep 1860 in Fitchburg (Worcester) Massachusetts. She married George Caswell.

464.5. Amasa Aldrich was born 18 Mar 1789 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 20 May 1880 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. He married 1812 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, Candace Cook. Candace was born 28 Mar 1793 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 12 Nov 1876 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.5.7. Candace Cook Aldrich was born 23 Feb 1825 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married 25 Nov 1847 in Swanzey, James Marsh, son of Israel Marsh and Tabitha Wheelock. James was born 25 Nov 1847 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.
Candace and James had five children (second cousins to us):

464.5.7.1. James E. Marsh was born 24 Sep 1848, probably in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire. He married on 4 Oct 1877, Ann Whitney.

464.5.7.2. Emily Marsh was born 11 Jul 1851, probably in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire. She married on 11 Jul 1851, Wilton H. Spalter.

464.5.7.3. Amasa Marsh was born 1 Aug 1853 in Keene (Cheshire) New Hampshire. He married Alice Scott.

464.5.7.4. Walter E. Marsh was born 20 Jul 1855. He married 18 Jan 1883 Jessica Tottingham.

464.5.8. Calista Thompson Aldrich was born 1 Apr 1827 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.5.9. Carlton Cook Aldrich was born 2 Oct 1829 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire.

464.13. Rev John Langdon Aldrich was born 27 Mar 1805 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 24 Jul 1832. He married 27 Mar 1828 in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire, Esther Whitcomb. Esther was born about 1805.
John and Esther had one child that we know of, there may be others (first cousin to us):

464.13.1. Charlotte W. Aldrich was born 13 Feb 1829 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire. She married Fernando Byron Bennett. Fernando was born 31 Dec 1826 in Swanzey (Cheshire) New Hampshire, and died 22 Jun 1863 at Port Hudson (East Baton Rouge) Louisiana.
Fernando served in the Civil War, enlisting in Sep 1862. He is said to have been a member of the “52nd Regiment”, but the source did not say from which state -- New Hampshire did not have 52 regiments -- perhaps Massachusetts, or perhaps they got the number wrong. He is supposed to have been killed by friendly fire at Port Hudson, Louisiana.
