Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Eldora Beahm |
||
| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further. | HOME | |

NOTABLES:
232. Marmaduke Aldrich served in the War of 1812 |
232. Marmaduke Aldrich {wa,ca} was born 13 Aug 1781 in Smithfield (Providence) Rhode Island, and died
18 Jun 1858 in Oregon (Dane) Wisconsin (some have New York). He is a son of 464 Amasa Aldrich and Uranah
Payne. Marmaduke married 25 Dec 1803 in Richmond (Cheshire) New Hampshire,
233. Polly Cole {wa}. Polly was born about 1784 in
Vermont, and died 7 Jun 1859 in Granger (Allegany) New York.
Polly is the oldest (and only) known member of the Cole branch of Rita’s family. The name Cole has many independent origins and is impossible to pinpoint. Some lines derive from the name Nicholas; some are Anglicized from French Charbonneau or German Kohl, some come from the Irish McCool, some from Old English for black or dark, and others. We know nothing about Polly's family except that she was born in Vermont, and her family moved to New Hampshire before 1803.
Marmaduke was born in Smithfield, a small town near Providence (Providence) Rhode Island. In 1788, when he was about 7, he moved with his family about 100 miles north to Swanzey in Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Marmaduke and Polly were married in New Hampshire, and their first two children were born there. About 1806 they moved west to Otsego County in central New York, where their remaining children were born.
Marmaduke served in the War of 1812 against Britain.
In 1827 they moved further west to Allegany County, New York. In 1850 they moved to Wisconsin along with their two oldest children.
Some have Marmaduke’s death in New York, but most (web) sources I have seen say he
died in Wisconsin in 1858. He is supposed to be buried in Weaver Settlement cemetery near Granger, New York {ca}. If so, he was probably taken
back by Polly. Polly moved back to New York after Marmaduke died, where she lived her last year with one of her children.
Marmaduke and Polly had six children:
232.1. Sally Aldrich was born in 1804 in Cheshire Co, New Hampshire, and died 19 Jan 1857 in Reedsburg (Sauk) Wisconsin. She married 27 Jun 1822 in Allegany Co, New York, Israel Root.
232.2. Gideon P. Aldrich [116] {wa} (1806 NH - 1884 WI) and Rachel Mills are direct ancestors, separate page.
232.3. Amasa Aldrich was born 10 Mar 1808 in Otsego Co, New York, and died 25 Nov 1852 in
Granger (Allegany) New York. He married 2 Jan 1830, Zeruah Parker. Zeruah was born in 1809 and died in 1863.
Amasa and Zeruah had five children (first cousins to us), order and birth dates unknown:
232.3.1. Marilla Aldrich was born sometime around 1832.
232.3.2. Linus P. Aldrich was born sometime around 1832.
232.3.3. Alonzo Aldrich was born in 1836. He married about 1858, Marinda Waite. Alonzo was a Republican.
Alonzo served in the Civil War, enlisting in 1863 in Co. D, 4th NY Heavy Artillery.
232.3.4. Arvilla Aldrich was born sometime around 1840.
232.3.5. Melissa Aldrich was born sometime around 1840.
232.4. Horatio Nelson Aldrich was born in 1810 in Otsego Co, New York, and died in 1893 in Livingston Co, New York. He went by the name Nelson. He married Betsy Ann Riverton.
232.5. Benjamin Aldrich was born in 1813 in Otsego Co, New York, and died 23 Jun 1860 in Granger (Allegany) New York. He married Sarah Ferguson.
232.6. Mary Aldrich was born about 1818 in Otsego Co, New York. She married Samuel Berry. Samuel was born in 1818 in Livingston Co, New York.
