Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Eldora Beahm |
||
| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further. | HOME | |

NOTABLES: 122.6. Washburn Blatchley served in the Civil War |
122. Harlow Blatchley was born 2 Nov 1810 in Windsor (Broome) New York, and died 21 Apr 1885 in Green Lake County, Wisconsin. He is a son of Daniel Blatchley [244] and Amy Bristol [245]. Harlow married in Nov 1831 in New York,
123. Phoebe Woodruff. Phoebe was born 1 Oct 1811 in New York, and died 18 Oct 1886 in Green Lake County, Wisconsin.
Phoebe is the earliest known of her line. The name Woodruff is English, and is supposed to mean “keeper of the woods”, i.e. a sort of forest ranger or sheriff.
Harlow and Phoebe were Methodist Episcopalian (at that time still considered to be a branch of Episcopalian, today they would be Methodist). They moved to Wisconsin in 1847. Among the early settlers in Green Lake County, they lived at first in a log cabin. They were farmers. Harlow left his family in Wisconsin and went to California for the Gold Rush, 1853 to1858. Some sources have 12 Oct 1817 for Phoebe’s birth, and some have June 1885 for Harlow’s death.

and had children from both marriages. Albert married first, 15 Sep 1890, Lena L. Merrill.

Ione Squier, the daughter of Daniel Squier and Diana Ellsworth. Ada was born 4 May 1846 in Irving (Chautauqua) New York, and
died on 1 Dec 1866 in Kingston (Green Lake) Wisconsin.

The birthplaces of their children indicate that they moved frequently.

122.6. Washburn Blatchley was born 27 Jun 1843 in Blington (Broome) New York, and died 29 Jan 1914, probably in Reedsburg (Sauk) Wisconsin. Washburn married 24 Dec 1865, Alice E. Plank. One source gives another marriage to Sarah Alice Plank, but no date is given; there were no children; the coincidence of the names Alice and Plank causes me to question whether these might be the same person.
Washburn served in the Civil War, a private in Company K, 10th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted 7 Oct 1861 in Juneau County, giving his residence as Kingston (same town as Vinings). He was wounded at Stone’s River, near Murfreesborough Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862 - 3 Jan 1863 (from the Official Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers -- some web sources have it incorrectly as Wilderness). He was mustered out 3 Nov 1864.

died 18 Aug 1878 in Mondovi (Buffalo) Wisconsin. Eunice also married William Bradley; there were no children from this marriage.

and died 8 Jan 1925, probably in Green Lake Co, Wisconsin. Alma married 23 Apr 1867, Giles A. Joslen,
the son of Giles O. Joslen (~1820 NY - 1857 NY) and Mary A. Andrews (~1820 - 1883 WI). Giles was born on 27 Jun 1848 in
Machias (Cattaraugus) New York, and died sometime after 1890, probably in Green Lake Co, Wisconsin. The name is sometimes seen as
