Bill’s Family: Ancestors of Eldora Beahm |
||
| These pages are a compilation of my work and that of others. You are welcome to use anything on this page, but be aware that although I have been as careful and accurate as possible, I am not a professional genealogist. I have been working on our genealogy for over 25 years, and started the website in 2005. Some of the lines I have researched myself; some, especially on Rita’s side, we inherited the research of other family members over the past 75 years. Still, the majority of these pages are limited to compilations from published books and what I could find on the internet. The target audience was and remains our family, so the family pages are limited to our own ancestors. I have set it up so that each page is one set of ancestors, with their descendants. For the most part I have limited my scope to their great-grandchildren (second cousins to us); in some cases I list sources which may continue further. | HOME | |

14. David Charles Beahm {a,b,c,d,e,f} was born 29 Mar 1888 in Marcellon (Columbia), Wisconsin, and died probably around 1940 in Pardeeville (Columbia), Wisconsin. He is a son of Cabert Beahm [28] and Jane Aldrich [29]. David married probably about 1908 in Wisconsin,
15. Eva Muriel Vining {b,c,e}. Eva was born 28 Mar 1887 in Clark Co, South Dakota, and died 14 Aug 1927 in Columbia Co, Wisconsin. She is a daughter of Willard Vining [30] and Josephine Brownell [31].
Although they were almost certainly unaware of it, David and Eva are 8th cousins -- both descend from 7424 George Aldrich and Katherine Seald.
Eva’s parents had moved from Wisconsin to South Dakota, where she was born. When she was 11 her mother died, and the family moved back to Wisconsin in 1898. They lived at first with Eva’s grandfather in Chetek, northwestern Wisconsin, but sometime within the next ten years they ended up back in Columbia County.
David has a certificate of birth, rare for Wisconsin -- but it was made out in 1940, certified by his oldest sister. We are not sure why they did this at that time. Social Security was just starting to make regular payments in 1940, so perhaps it had something to do with that.
David and Eva were Presbyterian. They were farmers (probably dairy farming) in Columbia County, where they appear in the 1910 census.
David registered for the World War I draft on 5 Jun 1917. He was not drafted. He gave his residence as Pardeeville, and listed himself as a self-employed farmer in the town of Marcellon. He is described as medium height and medium build, with light brown eyes and black hair. He claimed exemption from the draft due to support of wife and three children.
Eva died in 1927, and David lost the farm during the Great Depression in the 1930’s. We don’t know what he did during his last years.
David and Eva had four children:
14.1. Marvin Beahm {b,c,g} was born probably about 1909 in Pardeeville (Columbia) Wisconsin. He died sometime before 1912.
14.2. Edith Almina Beahm {c,g} was born 27 Apr 1910 in Marcellon (Columbia) Wisconsin. She married in Columbia County, Melvin Rohrbeck (called “Mugs”). Melvin died Jul 1986 in Columbia Co. Wisconsin. They were dairy farmers in Columbia County.
Edith and Melvin had three daughters and a son, first cousins to us. (Living descendants are omitted.)
14.3. Eldora Elizabeth Beahm [7] {c,e,g} (1913 WI - 1999 WI) and Donald George Hawley are direct ancestors, separate page.
14.4. Wilfred Charles Beahm {c,g} was born 23 Oct 1916 in Columbia Co, Wisconsin. He married sometime before 1939 in Wisconsin, Esther Jacobs. They were dairy farmers, but lost a good part of it when the barn burned down sometime around 1970. Wilfred then sold the farm, and bought a tavern in Pardeeville.
Wilfred and Esther had three daughters and one son, first cousins to us (living descendants are omitted.)
