Elijah Spencer, 23rd Missouri Infantry
October to December 1864
I don’t have any confirmed information yet on Elijah Spencer for this time period. I am including this section here to keep things in their proper place. This will be expanded when I get more information.
According to the family records, Elijah went on Sherman’s March to the Sea with the 23rd Missouri. They started from Atlanta on November 16, 1864. The main Confederate army that had been facing them was Hood’s; when Sherman started heading east, Hood went back to Tennessee and attacked Franklin and Nashville. With Hood gone, Sherman’s army did not have any major battles on their march.
Sherman’s Army, and presumably Elijah Spencer, reached Savannah, Georgia on December 21.
